I've used 35gr Hornady V-Max on yotes before with no problems.

I have killed them with a 22lr. Range and shot placement are vital.

Noooo problem. Great coyote medicine. I liked it because it had more umph than a 22 and was not as noisy as my 22-250.

The .22 Hornet has 1 shot killing capabilities beyond that of a yote, at ranges beyond 150 yards.:)

You bet it is and what a great round at that. ..... ;)

The .22 Hornet has 1 shot killing abilities beyond that of a yote, at ranges beyond 150 yards.
Also so true and back when I was a "younger" kid with less options, I took them regularly, out to 100yds with a .22 Mag. No matter, if I had a 200yd shot, I'd have taken it. Most of my midwest Yote shots are under 100yds. .... ;)

Be Safe !!!

Yes.

I think that 200yds would be my personal max range. It's beginning to get iffy around there, depending entirely on shot placement.

Under 150yds, it is probably just about ideal.

That is what they were designed for.

Ive shot proably 10 of the with the 35 vmax. At a 100 yards or less it gets it done. I think if i knew shots would be any farther out then a 100 yards id step up to a 223. Ive shot a couple out at 200 that did run off wounded.

Just how big and heavy are coyotes?

In VT they can get over 70#, as the Eastern Coyote has interbred with Wolves on it's way here...

http://www.propertyrightsresearch.org/2006/articles04/eastern_coyotes_are_becoming_coy.htm

I have been after one male since the first of the year that easily goes over 60#...I have never seen one as large, or as red colored...He's shedding now, so I will wait till late fall to chase him if he is still around...

He teases me by sitting in front of people's houses, thus not allowing me a clean shot...He runs with an all grey female that is in the 35# range...

Maybe it's a feral dog or a recent generation coywolf.

It sure as heck is not a 'dog'...

If by 'CoyWolf' you mean a coyote/wolf hybrid, that is what I said in my last post...

A .22 Mag will clean a coyote's clock just fine, so a .22 Hornet would be OK also. I prefer the .223 myself.
