I am interested in competing in the IDPA and my pistols of choice are either the S&W M&P pro. or the HK P30L. Now could someone please tell me the difference between the SSP and ESP divisions because they booth seem very similar to me. Thank you for your input.

If you look at http://www.idpa.com/, you will find a link to the current rulebook http://www.idpa.com/Documents/IDPARuleBook2005.pdf

Pages 18-22 should answer your question.

The main website also provides a listing of IDPA clubs.

Good luck.

Technically, SSP is double action pistols and ESP is single action, but through some quirks, Glock and M&P are SSP while XD and XDM are ESP.

If the H&K is carried cocked and locked, it's ESP. If it's DA/SA, then it's probably SSP. "Probably" assuming that you didn't change anything in the trigger.

Ok thanks for your input guys. The HK that I have has LEM trigger. basically a hammer fired DAO. I'm assuming that would make it a SSP.
