Hi folks, I just signed up on the sight, and I'm not an expert on hand guns, or any other type of gun. I do know I like them, and I recently purchased (used) the subject gun from it's original owner for $135.00. It was purchased new in 2004 (I think, the receipts date is a little faded), and it's never been fired (except the one round by Ruger). The serial number is; NRA-18279. It's in the original case, with certificate and receipt. He also included a beautiful set of walnut hand grips for it. Other then being excited and wanting to share my new toy (symbolically speaking) I wanted to know what someone with more experience thought of this hand gun. Is it still in production? How many were made, is there somewhere I can get a set of ivory girps for it? The walnut ones are attractive, but I like the white contrast better. Also, would it decrease the value if I took it out and shot it? It's kind of hard not too, but I was told it was a collectors gun although, I'm not sure how much interest there is for it in the gun collectors world. I appreciate your comments, and thank you in advance.

NOTE: I wanted to stress that I'm not one to take advantage of someone. He was happy to sell it, and I paid his asking price.

Here's a pic of one from five years ago that went for $300. I doubt the grips are real ivory, but what do I know.

Welcome to the forum.

$135? Great price.

I bought mine NIB about 7 or 8 years ago, paid $299. Serial # NRA-10XXX. The grips are hollow plastic. These were some of the last of the Mark II's. IIRC, 25,000 were made. Because of that, collector value is limited, but because it's a Mark II, and because they are nearly indestructable, it will hold what value it has even if you shoot it. I have seen used ones sell for around $300 on Gunbroker, not really any different than unfired ones. Bar S makes some very nice faux ivory grips at an an affordable price. (http://www.truivory.com/truivorygrips.htm) Mine wears the original white plastic grips.
Now get out there and shoot it and take some pic's.

OK, Thanks for information. Now I'm not afraid to take it out and fire it. My brother says it shoots true. Thanks again!
