Winchester73. Here is my best reblued Colt. They did a fine job! I guess they did the reblue job around the fall of 1917. They also refinished the grips too. In those days, they had some good gun people. Thanks for looking,
Joe

After all these years, that design is still State of the Art.
John Browning was a Genious. :)

TURPS, color me confused, how can a gun be refinished before it was even built? If it is truly
a 1918 vintage gun why the 1917 reblue? I assume just a typo, however a great colt. I am FAR from an expert of 1911's but the bluing looks very similiar to factory bluing. How do you know it was reblued? I am not being a wise ass or a snob I am trying to learn. From the distant photos I would assume original.

The 1911 was not reblued. It was sent to France in Jan. of 1918 with a shipement of 5000 1911s (as is). I wanted to see if Winchester 73 could tell the difference between a reblue and an original finish 1911. 30remchester and TX Hunter are very astute in YOUR observations.
Your comments are appreciated,
Joe

very nice. Guy at a local gun shop has a 1912 1911, the bad thing is, who ever owned it before checkered the front strap and installed adjustable sights

Well, he probably paid the DCM $17.50 for it, too.
You cannot judge those days by the present standard in which army surplus has become a Significant Historical Artifact and a Valuable Collector's Item.
