12ga #0000 buckshot ?

Does anybody have any experience with #0000 buckshot? Came across some and didn't even realize any mfg. loaded it.

Also came across "strung Buck", two .58cal (?) balls strung between 6" of braided steel wire. Talk about oddball 12ga rounds!

Like to hear from anyone who's tried either of these loads

I don't have any experience with either, but I do remember coming across this video. The guy shoots a few different odd ball 12 ga ammo at some manequins. It's kinda fun to watch.

Never seen the "strung Buck", sounds like a Civil War cannon load.

I use #4 buck as my in house load. I have neighbors on three sides within 100yds and I'm concerned about ball or slugs past my property line if anything ever happened that required me to discharge the 12ga inside.

RESTATEGUNNUT: That's about what I figured for the "strung buck".


The other is not #4 buckshot. It's #0000 Buckshot, eight .36 (?) balls in a load. It's larger than #00 or #000 buckshot. I wondered if it would be a good
camp defense round.

Here in FL, shot connected together is illegal by statute.

Look up a Youtube video called "Rounds of Authority". Old vid that shows them in gel and against cars, vests, and such.

I doubt that, whatever your target is, will notice a difference between
OOO or OOOO buck.

that is wrong it has been enlarged. those 000# buck would be like shooting marble's an i shoot the 00 an 000# all the time.

Strung buck - the origin is the old navy chain shot for cannons . Two balls connected by a chain , used to damage a ship's rigging.
I know someone who made his own strung buck with two split sinkers connected with a piece of nylon twine .Does a very good job on woodchucks !!

0000Buck is .38 inch, too big to fit two across in the 12 ga. It will fit two across in a 10 ga.

It also will fit lined up in a 410 with 3 pellets weighing 255 gr. or just shy of 5/8 oz and 4 pellets weighing in at 340 gr. or just a hair over 3/4 oz.

I wouldn't use 0000 buck, or 000 for that matter. Too few pellets with a real risk of large holes in your pattern. I use #1 and 0 buck. #1 is the best balance between shot size and number of pellets, in my opinion.
