Ok, so lets say it happens, and the cops or FEMA go door to door of all the registered gun owners and demand your guns. My guns???

What do you do?

How do you keep them away?

They knock on the door... You just say what??? Get off my property. No you can not come in side. I have nothing to say to you. You are not wanted, leave now!

All I can think of is never let them in. Never say anything other then get out of here, and do not acknowledge their attempts to get you to admit you have weapons?

Now if they force their way in, then there is a gun fight and I will be dead.

They do not care. They will say national emergency and no one will be fined fired or repermanned for killing a white man with a gun. They will probably give them evil SOBs a medal.

As law abiding citizens we are obliged to obey the law.

What makes you think anyone is going to come door to door like that? In Texas, there is no gun registration so they wouldn't know where to look.

Of course, if you're out on the porch waving a shotgun around that might get someone's attention...

Historically this is an inaccurate scenario...

they don't come for the guns, they come for you.

they don't need a gun registration... is a lot easier to confiscate one person than to worry about where the guns are hidden.

A lot easier to search for them once you are on the train for the free trip to 'camp.'

Historically, it's a very accurate scenario. It happened during Katrina, when the misquided chief of police, Eddie Compass, (hack, spit) told his officers to confiscate guns in the city of New Orleans.

Our agency had a detail in that city, assisting with the disaster response. As soon as Compass (hack, spit) gave the confiscation order, our detail left the city. Went home. The hell with Eddie Compass. The NOPD confiscated guns that still haven't been returned to their rightful owners. Compass has been the subject of various civil-rights suits, his name has been dragged through the mud, and he has been forced to quit law-enforcement. He's lucky that he isn't in prison. The rest of his force isn't so lucky. Many of them have been imprisoned for civil-rights violations that occurred during the Katrina debacle.

In 2006, the Louisiana legislature enacted legislation that makes it illegal to confiscate firearms from a citizen during a declared emergency. All police officers statewide were instructed in the law. I don't believe we'll ever have that problem again in Louisiana.

However, that's not going to stop the misguided politicians from trying to confiscate firearms in other states.

So, what do you do?

1. Have a firearms inventory.
2. Obey the law. If the cops come for your guns, be polite, be courteous. If they take guns, insist that they give you a receipt. Take names of officers involved. Gather as much information as you can.
3. Remember that during an emergency, your first obligation is to survive, whether it be from the weather, or whether it be from misquided bureaucrats. Your first obligation is to survive. Live through this thing, we'll get payback later.
4. After the emergency, sue the living hell out of everyone involved, from the officer who took your guns to the mayor who gave the order. Hire a lawyer with the tenacity of a bulldog and the personality of a rattlesnake and sue the living hell out of everyone.

But remember, your first obligation is to survive the emergency.

OH boy.

We really don't do TEOTWAWKI threads here at TFL.

This one is a bit complicated, as it engenders strategy and tactics to avoid loss of civil rights, based upon a historical event of recent vintage.

After the Katrina debacle, many States passed laws that made firearm confiscations unlawful. If your State did not do that, then it behooves you to get the grassroots efforts going, to ensure passage of such laws.

As it stands, there is one federal lawsuit in the works that attempts to address that concept, since that States legislature expressly forbids the use of (defensive) firearms (for lawful protection off an individuals property) during a state of emergency.

If you wish to discuss real world tactics and strategy, we have a forum for that. Before going that route, I would stress that any such thread must be real world tactics and strategy. That would be a distinct challenge to keep it on topic and to avoid the inherent chest thumping and addition of implausible/imaginative scenarios.

If you wish to discuss the legal and/or civil rights aspects of another Katrina-type scenario, then this would be the proper place, but with the same caveats as above.

To combine both, as this thread has begun to head... Not going to happen.

The best advice is what PawPaw wrote.
