.....what you know about a Springfield/Savage 840 .222.

I've had one for about 15 yrs, given to me by a former neighbor. The bolt was jammed and from time to time I tried to free it. Well, today a friend and I finally got it loose. I gave it a good cleaning top to bottom and put it back together. It's smooth as glass now. All I need is a rear sight or a very cheap scope. From looking at ballistic tables, the .222 is a screamer of a round, albeit only 40g or 50g. Still, at a couple hundred yards it's screaming and still packing 500 ft lbs energy. I sold my Stag 2T AR15 last week and I feel lucky and blessed that we were able to get this thing working.....:D
I know a .222 won't replace a .223/5.56 BUT, it was free. What say ye?

Personally I love the 222 its an amazing round. I've killed many a deer out to 300 yard with my 700. It will soon be obsolete IMOP but if you you reload your good. My father swears by it and if you think you need atleast a 308 your dead wrong.

It sounds like a sweet deal. The .222 Remington was made in two flavors, the .222 Remington and the .222 Remington Magnum. Make sure which you have before you load it.

The .222 Remington will push a 40 grain bullet to about 3400 fps. Handloading will bring the best from the cartridge and it should be a fine little varmint/coyote round.

You will like the 222 good caliber. I shoot 50gr in mine use it for PD's and little paper shooting. Well good luck

I like the Springfield 840. I do not own one in .222 But I do have one in 30 30 Winchester.
The Rifle is very light, and comfortable to carry, but yet the recoil is not bad. The only problem I have with it is that the Magazine is tricky, and if the cartridges are not sticking up just right the bolt wont pick them up.
The Rifle is however acurate, and a Joy to shoot. My Daughtor Deer Hunts with mine, and I mounted a Redfield Revoloution Scope on it for her.
