I just learned about Hornady's "Steel Match" ammo. Outsourced (import) steel cases , domestic powder, bullet and maybe primer. They are available in .223, 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm.

What is not available is a "Steel Match" 7.62x54r load. Such an arrangment, using the Hornady .311 150 gr SST bullet, might turn out to be ideal for PSL and Mosin/Nagant PU scoped rifles. It would also cut down on recoil from the traditional 180-205 gr slugs now commercially available and used for hunting. The recoil from a 205 gr x54r round and an M44 Mosin carbine must be truly dynamic!!!

If you are interested in an accuracy/game load for x54r, using 150gr weight,, I'd suggest one drop Hornady a note.
They have an online site for just such a thing, or regular mail would suffice.

Dynamic? I suppose that's as good a word as any.

Brisk, memorable, teeth rattling, stiff, any of those will work. :D

Actually, I think it's more a function of the buttstock design, which (apparently) was to be used more as a club than a recoil absorbing apparatus.

Even the 180's are noticeable, but, 180's in a 30-06 are noticeable, as well, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
