Just out of curiosity, I would like to know what each of you think is the best semi-autos for each category starting at $200 and going through $1K in $100 increments. Here are my picks:

Best Guns:
$200-$300 - S&W Sigma
$300-$400 - Ruger SR9 & Sig SP2022
$400-$500 - Springfield XD & S&W M&P
$500-$600 - Glock & CZ 75
$600-$700 - Beretta 92
$700-$800 - Sig P226/229 & Kimber 1911
$800-$900 - H&K USP & Colt 1911
$900-$1000 - H&K Mk 23 & Browning High Power

OMG, you may as well have started a thread on "politics, religion, Blondes or burnettes." I think that this is way to subjective especially considering that prices are regional based upon bans, local regulations, and availability.

Hk mk23's are really closer to $1800 and I would group Kimbers, Colts and Springfields into the same relative price category when compared to the "value" 1911s, i.e. RIA, Armscorp etc.

Either way this should interesting...

I think you have a great idea here, but specifying retail or sale price would have been a help. Sale prices are all over the map and will cause guns to be in more than one price range in the minds of those who respond to this thread.

I agree with you on the Sigma and the Beretta. In the $400-$500 price range, I would vote for the PT92 over the XD, M&P or Glock for that matter.

Should be a fun thread.

@ Mercenary, where do you live that a brand spanking new SIG P226/9 is in the 800-900 range? On sale you might find a 226 or 229 in that range around here but typically I have seen most P226's and 9's in the 950-1,050 range.

BTW I live in the Chicago Area.

Your list isn't a bad starting point, as long as certain limitations are realized. For example, most people wouldn't consider the Beretta 92, as fine a handgun as it is, as the best concealed carry pistol in its price range, because of its large size and weight. My point is that use has to be the first consideration rather than price.

But this could be an interesting discussion as people add their favorites to your list for consideration.

So a TRP should be in same category as a Rock Island.

CZ-2075 RAMI BD (http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-2075-rami-bd/) for $620.00

I finally got to fire one of these ladies last week,,,
Oh man but it is one sweet little pistol.

It was the metal frame version with a de-cocker,,,
Reminds me of a Para Ordinance warthog,,,
Except it's a whole lot prettier pistol.

It's a somewhat hefty feeling handgun,,,
But it balanced nicely in my hand,,,
The SA-DA action was sweet.

Heck, you started your price range too high. Where's the $100 Jennings/Jimenez/Bryco category?:) jd

jd: I bought my Bersa 383 for $125 used from a coworker. I'd surely go this route in the $100-200 range.

That, or a good quality pellet gun. :D

For self defense, maybe a good quality stun gun instead.

I would like to know what each of you think is the best semi-autos for each category

That's an unanswerable question.

Best at what?

Most reliable? Most concealable? Most ergonomical? Most accurate? Prettiest?

How is anyone able to give a meaningful answer to this?

Or when you say "best" are you really just asking for our personal preferences?

@ Mercenary, where do you live that a brand spanking new SIG P226/9 is in the 800-900 range?

Budsgunshop.com has both listed under $800.

Best at what?

Most reliable? Most concealable? Most ergonomical? Most accurate? Prettiest?

How is anyone able to give a meaningful answer to this?

Or when you say "best" are you really just asking for our personal preferences?

However you interpret it. What would each of YOU BUY in the aforementioned price range. Obviously you can't have every trait in each category. So just pick your favorites based on what's most important to you and have fun :D.

Apples and oranges as it should be broken down to striker fired and hammer fired in the various price range.

That said, it also should be best value for the money.

Hands down if you like hammer fired, then the SP2022 wins it (not that I am opinionated on this or anything, but I have shot the HK P30 and that's the best gun, but not the best gun for the best price.

$200 CZ 82 Is there a better deal out there right now? Can't think of a gun that gives you the quality, reliability of the CZ 82 for $200, heck even $300-400 would be tough.
