I could be wrong, but that is what you guys are here for. I am trying to figure out if this SIG was fully made in Germany, or if some of the parts were shipped here and then assembled.

The owner says it has a folded slide and ilafon finish, and that it is favored over the ones made here in the states. Is there anyway for you guys to confirm if this sucker was fully made in Germany by looking at the picture?

I could if you PM me the serial number.... LOL Your gun is a stamped slide. You can tell by the roll pins in the slide. Looks like it might be Iffalon or K Kote both of which are darker black than the standard Sig blue. It is hard to say for sure. Grips are houge replacements so they will not tell you anything about the date of manufacture.

There are a few ways to determine date of manufacture and origin.

First look up the serial number here. http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/430601935/m/467100822

You can also look under the front of the slide for these markings. Only Sigs made in Germany have the proof marks.

It isn't my gun. I am contemplating buying it, and trying to find out more about it. When you are talking about a stamped slide what exactly do you mean?

How much should a gun like this sell for?

Worth more to whom?

Are you going to shoot it or collect it?

Don't pay more if it is going to be a shooter.

As for collectors, there are so many P220s out there, I doubt if they have much value as collectors.

It is worth more than a nib Exeter gun to a lot of people not that I will pay more for one. IMHO guns like this are worth $550 to $650 depending on condition and accessories.

I am just looking for a good shooter.

Current Sigs are milled stainless steel the one you are looking at is stamped and then folded carbon steel slide. They are coveted by Sig pursists.

So you would lean towards it being manufactured in Germany?

If it has the proof marks...yes.

Wish that guy would get back to me. I asked him for the serial number and any other markings.

If I has to bet it is All German gun. Offer $550

The sn is G291063. He said he doesn't see any markings under the slide.

Serial number put is around 1998. It is hard to say. I am waffling a bit on this one. If it does not have the proof marks it is either a slide made in Germany and assembled here in the US or it is a frankengun and the slide is a replacement and the frame is older. Could be a CPO where they switched the slide. Impossible to say 100%

How much does he want for it?

550

Does he have the factory box? If he does what color is it? Is it plastic and is it black, blue or red?

Either way it is not a 100% German gun. If it shoots well offer $500 if it has the box manual and 2 factory mags.

No box, and he doesn't remember the color. If he had to guess he thinks it was black.

I didn't buy into the "pure" West German P-220's are better than the current (Exeter) 220's.

Well, in my experience, the WG's are better; in my case, the WG 220 is much better. In fact, I will never own another Sig other than a true WG.

So are all the parts from Germany then assembled over here? Or is it a melting pot of parts?

WVsig
May 24, 2011, 09:46 PM
All German parts assembled here IIRC. They are good guns.

Is 550 a fair price?

I am gonna look it over when I meet up with the owner. Anything in particular to look for? I have never bought used. Just bought new.

I see people criticize Sigs that were produced here. Is this going to fall in that line because it was assembled here?

This Sig should be solid. Check for excessive wear on the rails. Check the barrel riffling. Check the ramp for nicks or damage. I always like to take the grips off if I can. Looking under there often tells you how often it was stripped and cleaned. If all this checks out $550 is fair not great. How many mags?

Criticism of Sig really started when Cohen took over as CEO. IIRC this was on the mid 2000's.

Sig started assembly of the 220 in the states around 1995. At G291063 I would say WVsig is pretty close at 1997 or 1998. All the sheet steel slides say made in Germany or W Germany because they never moved the tooling here to do them.
