CMP Field Grade Garand, $495 + $22.95 shipping, delivered to your door.

These have all been gone over by CMP Armors to assure you of a safe reliable rifle. Plus you'll not find any better customer service.

Also check out the ammo for the Garand, you can't reload it for that price.

Also CMP puts on GSM (Garand) Clinics and matches throughout the country to teach you how to propertly shoot and compete with the Garand.

EDIT: Just noticed you're in Alabama, go to the South Store and get the CMP Staff to help you pick out your Garand.

With a tight budget you could look into a nice used Remington 7400 in either cartridge. I have a Rem 7400 06' which was always a very reliable semi auto centerfire.
I also have a DPMS LR308AP4 AR10 style 308 carbine very reliable, accurate, quick on target, and really hits those whitetail with authority :D
A Fun Gun!!
