How effective are air weight ASP batons and do they break???

I am considering buying a 6" air weight ASP baton. They are half the weight of the regular ones. This is why I'm considering one. How effective are air weight ASP batons and do they break if you strike something with it???

I bought my first ASP when they first came out. It is heavy and was too long for everyday carry. Though it is very sturdy and could put out a hurt on someone. When they came out with the aluminum ones I thought they would break, but I bought a 16" anyway. I went into my workout room and proceeded to beat my heavy bag for a few minutes. The ASP came out unharmed and in fine shape. Next I took it to my stick striking post and did some blocks and strikes, the finish got slightly marred but the baton was still straight and retracted and expanded fine. After that I have no compulsions about carrying it for deffense. However if you are carrying one of the big ones now practice with the light one to get a feel for it.

I never had a air weight model but I do carry the 16inch steel model on duty and It
is the best. Tough as hell and I am sure the air weight model is also.

I have boken a couple batons... While they are very tough - the light weights will be a little easier to break. But thats like saying a .45 is less leathal than a .44...
