The latch on my A2-style Colt's butt plate is a real thumb nail buster. So, I usually use an implement to get it open. Supposedly, one of the differences between the Colt Canada C7 rifle and US M16A1/A2s is the butt plate's trapdoor is easier to operate. Any of you have experience with the Canadian version, or have modified an A2 for an easier opening trapdoor?

I've never come across one that opens easily, the end of a cleaning rod was always my go-to implement. Funny thing about that is my cleaning rods were typically stored in there.

Yep, a bullet tip works; but, I'd like to be able to open it without an implement. If it works for the Canadians, why not the US?

It has got to be either a weaker spring (most likely) or stronger hands (less likely).
