View Full Version : Thinking about the XDm Compact 3.8

Well, I (and a lot of others!) said it before when Springfield released the XDm 3,8 that it was a mistake to chop off the barrel and leave the huge grip as long as it was. It's obvious that Springfield heard our cries, because the XDm Compact 3.8 is exactly what we all said it originally should have been.

Most of you know that I'm traditionally a Sig and Glock guy, although I dabble in the HK/M&P/XD pools from time to time. I haven't owned any XD's or M&P's for about a year or so now, but I'm thinking I really might need to pick up one of these compact XDm's. Watched a few reviews on youtube - including that of our own beloved hickok45 and everything I'm watching seems to affirm the idea that I would like to get one of these.

What say you? Anyone out there gotten ahold of these yet? I had an original XDm-9 when it first came out that I liked but ended up selling it to a friend. I liked the ergonomics, but it was just big and at the time I was mostly focusing on carry guns.

Done deal. I picked it up just a little bit ago. Haven't shot it yet, but it feels awesome.

Did you really have to post that video? Really?? Time to scrape up some more coin. Thanks a lot. :D He was bound and determined to not let that ol' turkey get the best of him. :p

I thought about getting the compact, but since I've had no problem carrying a Glock 17, I went with the full-size grip version.

I like it a whole lot.

I installed the Powder River trigger kit and mounted a JPoint. Easy to carry, very accurate.

For some reason I do not care for the red dot on that XDM. Just personal Pref, but not for me. The 3.8 compact is a great looking gun.

I can't say that I really care for the red dot either. I'm sure it makes quick draw firing pretty nice, just seems a bit too bulky for me. The reason I liked the XDM is for the tapered slide. Sorta reminds me of the HK P30/P2000

No problem. I'm goin' broke over here. I just picked up a Glock 19 EXO and I may need a new CCW to go with it....

This morning I fitted the XD pinky extension to my XDM small magazine (like the example in the photo I posted originally).

This makes the gun the absolute perfect size for my hand. I'm just not a fan of my pinky hanging off. It doesn't hinder my shooting, I simply don't like the way it feels.

There is a how-to on one of the XD forums I found that explained that you can fit the XD pinky extension to the XDM magazine by shaving off about 1.5mm around the lip.,.. and it was absolutely right. Fits perfectly.

As I understand, Pearce will actually be releasing a true XDM pinky extension in the near future, but I just went ahead and picked up this one and it fits fine. Can't wait to get some rounds through it!

So anyone else pick one of these up yet? I'm really loving mine. I've had 2 XD sub compacts, XD 5 compact, XD 45 tactical, full size XDM... this is by far my favorite....

It's exactly the right size. Very similar in size to the Glock 19. Slightly shorter grip. The pinky extension is definitely a necessary accessory, but with it on... this gun feels excellent in the hand. I'm using the small back strap, but the medium felt good too.

Ive been kicking one of these around in my head since I seen some reviews on youtube... whats a good price on one of those? I found one on sale for 539.99 at a gunshop about an hour away just wondering if thats a good deal or not?

That's a pretty good price if actually this new compact model. I paid about 650 out the door locally. I found it on gunbroker for a little cheaper but patience is not one of my strong points.

I'll get a range report as soon as I can. Haven't been able to get it to the range yet. Hopefully tomorrow!
