Will a hp really be better in either of these pistols than a FMJ?

I am just curious if there is evidence of expansion, with a .45, from these length barrels.

Thanks

A lot of the tests you can find online are done with a Glock 30, same barrel length as the 36.

Erm, sorry to nitpick, but the CS45 is a S&W gun. The Kahr subcompact .45 is the PM45, and the P45 is their compact.

Even lacking expansion, a chance of a bullet expanding beats the 0% chance of an FMJ expanding.

And a lot of modern manufacturers have bullet designs that will expand at a wide velocity range. If you want to be sure, get a Speer Gold Dot short barrel load. Winchester Ranger is also designed to expand at lower velocities as well.

He might have meant the CW45.

CorBon DPX has a very good record of expanding in short-barrel pistols.

I own a G36. Don't forget that the G36 has a 3.78" barrel and it is poly rifled. I think you will have velocities about equal to a 4" 1911. Expansion with most HP's is good, but if you shoot critical defense ammo it's really good.

I am just curious if there is evidence of expansion, with a .45, from these length barrels.

Yes, there are some youtube videos and other tests out there if you want to search.

I have tested quite a few different loads from my G30, which has the same barrel as the G36. Firing through cloth barriers, only two expand reliably and consistently - Gold Dot 230 gr and Hornady Critical Defense. I like the regular Gold Dot better than the short barrel.

Yeah, I did mean CW45.
Short fingers trying to type, ya know?

Thanks to all for info.
