Good story on the upcoming carbine trials in Army Times:

One thing that was interesting is how Remington is planning to bid on contracts for the M4A1 if the military decides to keep it after the trials. I imagine now that Colt has surrendered it's patents to the Army that anyone will be able to bid on the contracts. We've all seen M16A1s and A2s made by various manufacturers in the past but it will be interesting to see what companies will supply rifles now. You might have your pick of a BCM, Daniel Defense, Colt, or Remington if your armsroom has guns from more than one supplier. Let's just hope that "lowest bidder syndrome" doesn't affect the quality of the great AR manufacturers in business now.
