Looking at ruger mark III 22 pistols and ruger 10/22 rifles, REALLY like the idea and practicality of having a rifle and pistol in the same caliber...

Then got looking at ruger 9/40 cal auto pistols and the pc9/4 carbines...

What other rifles shoot pistol calibers?

I know there are AR-15 9mm's and such, not as interested in that and I of course know about the .357 revolver/lever gun rifles...

I'm looking for different options.

Any automatic pistols that shoot 22 magnum/hornet?

Any automatic pistols that shoot 22 magnum/hornet?

This is the first one that comes to mind. Kel Tec PMR-30 (http://www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/pistols/pmr-30/).

Years ago when I had more in my collection (pre-divorce) I had a rifle/pistol combo for the wife and one for me. For her; Ruger P94 .40S&W pistol with the matching PC4 carbine (a great deal on sale at the time from Bud's Gun Shop) and ten magazines total that fit the pistol and the carbine. The PC4 was a great shooter and easy to operate and maintain but the P94 was like most of the older, investment cast framed Ruger semi-autos, clunky! I also don't like slide mounted safeties.

For me, a Ruger GP100 four inch stainless .357 Magnum and a Marlin 1894C chambered in .357 Magnum as well. I had two of the same KGP-141 stainless GPs and they both had thousands of rounds through them and ran well, eating anything they were fed. After I got used to feeding a lever action and cycling it, I used that Marlin more than I did my ARs.

Would love to see someone produce a good quality patrol carbine series to match my current favorite sidearm, the S&W M&P series. The ability to swap mags between long gun and pistol is a great thing.

Good luck!

Do you want them just be the same caliber or do you want them to share magazines? If you just want to share calibers there's a lot of choices out there but the field narrows if you want to share magazines.

The Beretta CX4 Storm series can accept magazines from a wide range of Beretta handguns (i.e., PX4, 92-series, Cougar, etc). So you could pair it with a large number of handguns.

The Kel Tec SUB-2000 is even more versatile as you can see below:

The 9mm SUB-2000 can be configured in the following magazine types: Glock 17, Glock 19, S&W 59, BERETTA 92, SIG 226.

The .40 SUB-2000 can be configured in the following magazine types: Glock 22, Glock 23, BERETTA 96, S&W 4006, SIG 226.

I have a CX4 Storm paired with a Beretta 92FS INOX and I also have the Kel Tec SUB-2000 paired with a Glock 17, both in 9mm obviously.

45 colt hands down.. cheap plinking with lighter loads but you can also get hotter loads that surpass 44mag. great selection of guns chambered for the round too.

Surprisingly the hi-point carbines shoot extremely well. Way more reliable than the pistols and they have a no questions asked lifetime warranty... go with the .40 or the 9mm and stick to FMJs and you'll love it, especially for its low cost (around 150).

If I want a rifle, I want a rifle cartridge.
In the days of the cowboys it was an advantage to have both guns use the same ammo. However, it really limited the range and capabilities of the rifle.

Personally, I find no use for a rifle shooting a pistol cartridge.

I have 2 sets.. Henry .22 rifle and Heritage .22 single action revolver.
Hi-Point 9mm carbine and C9 9mm pistol.
Now I need a Hi-Point .45 carbine to go with my .45 taurus.
The Hi-Point 9mm carbine is alot of fun to shoot. I have a cheap red dot on it and its suprisingly accurate. Anytime I take it to the range its the one everybody wants to shoot.

How 'bout a Ruger Black Hawk and an M1, both in .30 carbine. Or the pair that I had. The Black Hawk, and Marlin model 62 lever action in .30 carbine.

I have the Hi-Point 9mm Carbine and XD 9mm CD I like not having to reload 2 cartridges. Both handle +P with no issues. If I want to go out more than 150 yards I have an 8mm that reaches out 500+ yards in a pinch.

I have the dies to reload 8mm, but with only using 4 cartridges for 3 deer in 2 years don't think I will need to reload anytime soon (with 1000 rounds of FMJ military in storage for SHTF and 40 rounds of hunting ammo)

And before someone starts the rant about the CX4 being so much better, the CX4 has a plastic hammer and plastic reciever and isn't rated for +P. The Hi-Point has a metal reciever and hammer and is rated for +P.

Not sure if I can think of .22 LR's as "pairs", since I mix and match to suit my fancy. Several rifles, and a few handguns.

Also have a SA Ruger and a Win '92, both in .45 Colt. They go pretty well together.

I have one combo, and it's a blast to shoot either of the CX4 or the Beretta 92 Vertec. The shared magazine feature make it even more convenient.

I'd also like to add a 5.7 X 28 carbine to go along with my pistol, maybe a AR platform with a 5.7 upper.

I have to agree somewhat with JerryM about wanting a rifle

cartridge in a rifle.

But I must confess I recently went with a Marlin 1894

.44 Remington Magnum to match my .44 pistol. But I like a round with some kick

to it.

ha! how convenient. I was just thinking about posting something like this.

Besides the ruger, kel-tec and Cx4 is there any other mag fed carbines that are worth a look? I already have the .357revolver & brush gun.

If I want a rifle, I want a rifle cartridge.

No offense, but such thinking is incredibly naive and belongs in the 4th grade.

When you want a hammer do you always want an 8 pound sledgehammer?

When you want some extra light do you always want a 750 watt arc lamp?

When your toilet gets plugged do you always call Roto-Rooter?

When you need to dig a hole do you always want a CAT 325C?

When you go shoot prairie dogs, do you use a 300 win mag?

A rifle is a tool and all tools come in different sizes for different uses. That 5.56 AR-15 is not going to do very well in an Elk hunt. One size does not fit all.

In the days of the cowboys it was an advantage to have both guns use the same ammo.

and it is still an advantage today. Has everyone forgotten 2008-2009 already? Even during the depths of the shortage pistol ammo was far more available than rifle ammo.

With pistol and rifle in the same caliber you don't have to worry about what is the right "ratio" of pistol/rifle ammo to have, you just buy as much of that cartridge that you think you should have on hand.

However, it really limited the range and capabilities of the rifle.
In what practical sense? How many cowboys were making 1200 yard shots? pistol caliber carbines are effective out to 100-150 yards depending on gun and cartridge.

More for grins than anything else, I bought a ruger 77/44 stainless steel, all weather 44 magnum, to be a companion piece to my S&W 629 classic 44.

I see this is in the semi-auto forum but us revolver guys don't want to be left out... :-)

I have a Marlin 1894C in .357 Mag. to match either of several S&W revolvers.
I have a S&W revolver in .44 Mag. that has been crying for a Marlin in .44 Mag. to keep it company for quite awhile. Some day...

It wouldn't be my choice but a stylin' way to do it on the semi-auto side would be a Colt or Dan Wesson 1911 in 10mm and an AR-15 in 10mm. I was looking at Oly's 10mm upper today and somewhere someone claimed you could get close to 1000 ft-lbs muzzle energy out of 10mm in a 16 in. barrel. Sounds fun!

There has always been an advantage of having rifles and pistols that share the same cartridge. I have 44 mag revolvers and 44 mag lever rifles. I have 45 LC revolvers and 45 lc lever rifles. I have 22 mag revolvers and 22 mag rifles. I have 22 rifles and 22 semi autos and revolvers to match them. I would like to match some of my 9mm and 45 auto pistols with some semi auto carbines. It just makes sense.

I don't have any advise for your 22 magnum because it does not fit in my Calibers but I do like having rifles and hand gun in the same caliber.

I have a a lot of 357 magnum pistols and a 357 marlin lever action. I all so have a Marlin guide gun in 45/70 and a Magnum research in 45/70. I believe in keeping my ammo simple... just wish the wife would agree...

I have a Colt Trooper Mk III revolver chambered in .357 Magnum,,,
Recently I purchased an H&R Handi-Rifle in .357 Mag.

I also have a Colt Trooper Mk III in .22 LR,,,
Matched with an H&R Handi-Rifle in .22 LR.

It's a fun thing for me to have dedicated pairs of guns,,,
Maybe I'm just OCD but I enjoy owning sets of things.

I'm no survivalist, just a sport shooter,,,
I rarely ever hunt anymore either,,,
But this combo will do it all.

The .357 is the top rifle,,,
The one with Leupold glass.

http://www.aarondgraham.com/pics/HR-Both.jpg

Here's the Colts,,,
The .22 is the 6" barrel.

http://www.aarondgraham.com/pics/colts.jpg

There is nothing in the state of Oklahoma,,,
That I can't hunt with this .357 combo,,,
And the rifle vaporizes armadillos.

So while it may not be necessary in this day and age,,,
It is often a fun and satisfying thing to do.

Who else has combos like these?

I have a Ruger Vaquero and Win '92, both in .45 Colt. They make a nice pair for the woods and brush country.

Handguns and rifles in .22 LR are mixed and matched as needed.

I have a mechtechsys.com .40 carbine upper that fits on my Glock 19 lower (yes, a 9mm lower). Most of my pistols are 40 S&W and I favor my Glock 23 so the MechTech uses my Glock compact and full size 40 mags. The MechTech is a pretty sweet shooting little carbine. The 40 S&W shot from a carbine is accurate and delivers a serious punch and reloaded ammo is dirt cheap and easy to crank out (no case lubing required).

I ordered mine without the "flash suppressor" (shown below) and threaded the barrel for a suppressor and brake. The barrel is very easy to remove and mount in a lathe.

I have been very happy with two combos - a Winchester 94 in .44 Mag/Spl. paired with several S&W revolvers in the same cal. and another Winchester 94 in .357/38 Spl also paired with numerous S&W and Ruger revolvers. It's nice to share.

If things get dicey and you need to bug out as quickly as possible, FN's Five seveN and the civilian model of the P90 would be perfect. Both use the same zippy caliber, And both firearms (as well as the ammunition for them) are compact, lightweight, reliable and potent. Though it may get a bit pricey to feed them.

Size and weight considered, you may also be able to carry both those firearms and still have room/strength to carry a decent long range rifle as well.
