Anyone use this as a ccw? Difficult to coceal? What kind rig do you use?

I carry one occassionally, but it is a little bigger (heavier) than I usually prefer to carry. I use a leather owb made by DeSantis. With a good belt it is not a problem for me to conceal it with a t-shirt.

Yes, I carry the 226 occasionaly. The holster is a Gould & Goodrich IWB. It has a butt forward tilt so that is doesn't cause a bulge.

It's comfortable for me to carry. I'm 5' 10" and 220lb. It doesn't seem too heavy

The mag. carrier on the opposite side helps the balance. A stiff or thick belt makes it easy . It carrys and conceals well on hot days wearing a T shirt with a shirt with the tails untucked. If you want to tuck the shirt, just blouse the material out over the gun.

Seems to work fine. As far as I know it's never been made. Good Luck

I used to carry my 226 every day for a long time, either in a Cross Breed Supertuck or in a Galco SkyOps, both IWB. I now carry the 220 everyday in one of the same holsters. It carries and conceals well but get yourself a good belt.

I carry a 226 on occasion but mostly I tote a 220 Carry. Both are carried comfortably in an iwb holster.

The 226 carries very comfortably and easily in a good IWB type holster. I found either Blade Tech kydex IWB's or Milt Sparks Versa Max II's in leather to work the best, depending on the season.

The P226 is a big pistol and whether or not it conceals well for you depends on more than holster type. Your physical make up, height, weight, waist, etc, will all have a bearing. So too will your attire/wardrobe, climate, and so forth. You can't wear a tac/IDPA vest, or a Hawian shirt, or sport coat everywhere. For some folks the P220/226 will do OK, not so others.

SIG makes their other pistols (P228/229, etc) to address the entire issue of concealable SIG's.

I've had a P226 in 9mm for many years, and once experimented with carrying it. I decided it was just too large, especially in the grip, for easy carry. My Glock 19 has the same magazine capacity but is a much smaller, lighter weight gun which conceals very well. So the P226 remains a range gun for me.

The P226, P220, and even the P228/229's are really not "big", and are all basically Colt Commander sized guns (the P228/229 being just "slightly" smaller). I always found it interesting that people thought the P228/229 and the P239 were "compacts", and the P220 and P226 were "big", when they are all basically the same size.

I think a lot of the size thing comes from your "era" too. I keep hearing all the guns I carry, or usually carried, are to big to carry, and it cant be done, which has always been news to me, as I've been doing it every day for about 35 years now. Im not big either, and I dont find it hard to carry a full size handgun, as well as a back up. Funny thing is, my back up (Glock 26), is actually bigger than many seem to be able to carry as their main gun! :)

If you like the P226, and shoot it well, then carry it. You'll figure out how to do it, and its not hard, but you do have to "want" to do it. That goes for anything too, big or small. "Want" has more to do with it than "can" or "cant".

I used to carry one, in a kydex under a jacket or in an IWB, had no problems at all. I am average sized, 5'11, 190 lbs (could stand to lose a few I know). I traded it to a P250, worst mistake I ever made not involving a woman. Thankfully I recently traded the 250 to a new 229, and I'm much happier.

Occasionally I carry mine in a belly band

Not the optimum though

the Bersa UC is my regular CCW

Like everyone else is saying - occasionally.

It's heavier and larger than several of my other guns.

But it's a pretty gun and a great shooter.

You can tell I like it -

I added forward cocking serrations in the slide -

had CCR do their magic to the slide

and added aluminum grips to it.

I think I'll carry it tomorrow.:D

I have both a P226 and a P239 and I can guarantee you they are not the same size. The P239 is 6.6 in. long, 5.1 in. high, 1.2 in. wide and weighs 27.5 oz. The P226 is 7.7 in. long, 5.5 in. high, 1.5 in wide and weighs 31.7 oz.

A little thick through the grip for a CCW for me. I have it setup as a backup HD gun, though, and the .22LR conversion slide is fun.

While these are of the P239 and P229, the P226 is only about a half inch longer, and really isnt that much bigger than the others. When you compare them all at the same time, youll see they really are not very different size wise.

Ive carried all three quite a bit, and I often carried the P239 along with either the P226 or P229, and never had any trouble doing so. I never really got the purpose of the P239, as I could easily carry one of the others in its place and have half again or more ammo on board. I could also use the P226's mags in the P229's if I had to. Cant use either in a P239, and vice versa.

Even when you look at the others, you see there really isnt much difference between any of them. The only SIG's with a real difference in size, are the P230/232, the P238's. From the looks of it, the new P290 really inst all that small, and its starting to look like SIG screwed the pooch again with it, by making it a single stack. I would have though Glock would have shown the way, and had more impact on that.
L - P220, P220 Carry, and P245 ... R - P226, and P229

I carry the 226 every where, everyday. I use a VM2 and a beltman horsehide 1 1/2" belt. I am 6' and 205 lbs. NO PROBLEM!!! LOVE THIS GUN!

A little thick through the grip for a CCW for me.

Those that find the 226 a mite thick might get along just fine with the 220.

I agree, I would probably get along well with a 220 if I were to buy another carry pistol. I didn't buy the 226 for carry though, so no regrets there.
