View Full Version : glock 20 and 21, interchangeable slides?

I'm thinking of getting a glock 20.... but given the lack of 10mm availability, I'd like the flexibility of getting buying more common rounds.

I know I can get different drop-in barrels, but what about getting an entirely new slide/barrel for the 45acp?

The slide should fit fine, but will the "guts" of the glock 20's lower work will with the shape/size of the 45?

Thanks

The G20 and the G21 use the exact same frame and frame parts (the locking block, ejector, trigger bar assembly, etc are the same in both frames). The fun tricky part is finding a G21 complete upper for your G20 (since no company I know of sells Glock factory slides). People sell complete used stock factory Glock uppers on Glocktalk here and there, but they normally go fast (you got to keep your eyes constantly peeled on the gun accessories classifieds section on there). Lone Wolf Dist. (LWD) makes their own custom slides (all Glock factory slide parts work in their custom slides) that work with Glock frames, if your interested in going that route. Once you find your complete G21 upper, all you will need is G21 mags.

Not so hard to find, if you look around.

If they are indeed completely interchangeable, why do they not work on SF frames? I don't know that answer.

I'm thinking it would just be easier to get a 40 barrel for it. Then you can use the same slide and mags.

So, given the slide interchangeability, I can just seek the most affordable G20 or G21.... and then find the appropriate "other" slide?!

Very cool.

Lately, I've been looking for a mint G20..... slim pickings... but there are a LOT more G21's out there. Very good. That expands my hunt horizons.

I didn't realize Glockmeister (I used to shop from them years ago, when Ben Paz owned it) was selling complete Glock factory uppers. Very cool. Of course if you add about $80-100 to price of those complete uppers you can probably find a nice used complete G20 or G21. As to why Glockmeister states that they won't fit a G20SF/G21SF frame is a very good question indeed. As far as I thought the G20/G21 uppers that come on both the non-SF G20/G21s and the SF G20/G21s were exactly the same. Very strange.

Dilbert, has a good point about the G20/G20SF, with just a conversion barrel each, you can also shoot .40S&W and .357SIG and still use your stock G20 mags. Something you can't do with the G21/G21SF.

I have a G20sf and a G21sf rtf2. The bottoms are the same but the extractor i believe is different a .40 for the 10mm and .45 for the 21 i may be wrong. The breech on the upper is different and the G20 slide is heavier. The G20 and a LoneWolf conversion is very popular and around a $100 for a .40 or sig.
I have some L/W barrels and they work great. I have a G24 abd 35 with a .357sig barrel so i have .40 longslides and .357sig longslides.
Plus a L/W barrel for my 20 for shooting hardcast lead.

Go for the 21. I have 2 of them and have picked up some killer drop-in barrel deals for 400 Cor Bon and 40 Super. Upgrdae the recoil spring and voila, you have 3-4 pistols in one. Have fun.
