Does anyone own one of the newer Model 70 Sporter's in a long action? If so, I have a favor to ask. Could someone measure the distance from the middle of the rear set of screw holes to the middle of the front set of screw holes? I'm comparing action lengths ( as far as mounting screws are concerned) and trying to determine if its possible to use a dual dovetail setup on the Model 70 or if the rings will be too far apart. Thanks.

I have a current production super grade with the long action (.30-06) which measures 120mm (4.724 in) center-to-center.

Now thats called getting your ducks in a row. Making sure dovetail bases will work on a rifle you don't even have!

You'd have to buy a pretty short scope for it not to work.

mshootnit, I know what scope and base I prefer to use, Why use something you dont like?

jimr40, not really. If the center of your holes are 4.7 and than add about .35 per ring which means you would need about a total of 5.4 inches of tube length. The average 3-9-40 tube length is roughly 5.6, which means you only would have .20 for eye adjustment. Thats not much. I prefer a fixed power which only has 5.4 of tube length so that means I would have no scope adjustment.
