Hello guys, I have a question for you all, I have a 7.62x54 mosin nagant sport and I have prepared it to shoot from 500- 1000 yards and I am having a hard choice choosing between a 10-40x50 Osprey long range tactical rangefider scope with Moa Retical, or a NCStar 8-32x50 aoe mil dot scope, most of my shooting is at 500 yards plus but want to hit the 1000 yard range, What do you guys reccomend, Im a 18 yr old on a budjet and only have 150 bux for my scope, the osprey is 140 and the ncstar is $85, any insight will be very appreciated, thank you again for being so patient and kind to me

I made a similar mistake about a year ago.

I bought a scope that for other people, . . . is probably a real gem, . . . but I forgot to do one important thing: check the eye relief.

Eye relief is the distance your eye must be from the rear of the scope to see clearly.

On scopes that have a big range of different powers, . . . the eye relief tends to be more limited. With 65 year old eyes, . . . a range of less than two inches became a real hassle for me.

It may not for you, . . . but look closely at the specs, . . . it could be the deciding factor. It would be for me, I am sure.

May God bless,
Dwight

+1 Dwight65. As magnification increases eye relief decreases, in most scopes. Schmidt-Bender claims that to not be the case $$$$$$$$. The recoil factor means that you may be "owned" by the Moison:barf:. 7.62x54 is no cream puff. I might recommend a Bushnell 3200 Elite 5-15 x40mm Matte or Mil-Dot ~$300.00. Fairly nice optics and won't break the bank. Better than the NCStar. There is also a 7-21x40mm ~$420.00
