Remington 870? should I?

I own 2 Mossbergs (an old 500 and a 6 shot 590) and 2 Winchesters (both 1300s one of them just a ranger and a 8 shot defender). I was wondering if I should buy a Remington 870. I don't really need another shotgun but I love them. Yes? No? Pictures?

What do you do with the shotguns you already have? It sounds like you already have the bases covered for HD and general purpose guns. How about something different like a coach gun for cowboy shooting or a sporting O/U? Or, if the guns you have now are all 12-ga, then you might want to give a smaller gun a try to sharpen your skills.

Nobody really needs another shotgun, it's a case of wanting one.

You can get a lot of after market add ons for the 870, some practical, some mall ninja:).
If you can get a good deal on one go for it.
There is no such thing as too many....:D

I have many firearms of all different sizes. I love them all. for the coach gun i am already looking for a Remington Spartan. I would like to see if the 870 stand up to what everybody says about it. and yes. there is no such thing as too many guns.

My first shotgun was a hand me down SxS 16 gauge. Then my parents bought me a Mossberg 500. I later bought a Remington 870 Express Mag (about 1997/1998). Wish I had known about the Express Super Mag then. Anyway, the Mossberg went into the gun cabinet and hadn't been out since (other than cleaning) until my buddy borrowed it last weekend.

The shotguns you have are as good as the 870. I would at least get a "Police Grade" or Wingmaster - if you get the Express do a search for upgrades recommended by Scattergun Bob as otherwise you will have one more shotgun of essentially same quality. Why not go ouside of the box and for a little more $$$ get a 930 Mossberg Semi-auto.

Thank you for the compliments. Both mag extensions are factory Remington.

The extension on the top shotgun is a +3 and the extension on the middle shotgun is a +2. I've had the top shotgun since 1989 and, back then, the bracket for the extension lacked the swivel stud to attach the sling swivels. I just left it that way, as I never slung it. The middle shotgun is a Police Magnum from 2004, and it came with the +2 extension. The new brackets have the swivel stud attached. Both extensions have functioned 100%.

I really dig the Police Magnum. I had the LOP shortened to 13", polished up the front bead with Flitz and a dremel, and worked the heck out of the action. It has a very slick action. Slicker than the old 870.

New guy here that's been lurking for quite a while. I love my 7-shot 870 Express HD gun. It's well balanced and shoots great. Everything is factory except that I added a sling and XS Big Dot night sights. :cool:

Not sure that would be wise. Since you love your shotguns so much, buying a superior 870 will only lower them in your estimation.:D;)

The theory of needs and wants applies to gathering Scatterguns around us. My wife often asks me do you really need another shotgun, my response is no, but I sure do want one!

We are truly blessed to be living in the GOLDEN age of Scatterguns, more manufacturers of solid guns and innovative models exist today than in any other time of our history. Revile in that and if you do not like a new 870 after you purchase it, some one else will!

The XS Big Dot sights are awesome. Visibility, both day and night are greatly enhanced over the standard gold bead. The tritium glow is supposed to last for 15 years. :)

IMHO, everyone should try a Wingmaster. It may or may not float your boat, but it hasn't been around for 50 years and millions and millions of copies for nothing. If you buy used and buy smart you can resell for close to what you paid or maybe even make a profit.

No it was a modified bore to begin with. I had Vang Comp put their full system on it. Ports, forcing cone and backbored.
