I'm in the market for a new .45 semi-auto and I've been out of touch with the gun world for a little while now. Who's making quality all metal (steel/aluminum) semi-auto handguns these days? Any relative newcomers making waves? I'm not looking for 1911s or anything Ruger. I carried a P226 for years and now I'm leaning towards a P220, but I'm wary of the new SIG (the company's new image makes me a little uneasy).

Sig 220 was my 1st thought. S&W 3rd gen if you can find one.

Stoeger Cougar just released the 45 version. It's basically a Beretta Cougar. I kinda want one myself.

The CZ-97 is all-steel. Also you can still get an all-steel EAA Witness or Magnum Research Baby Eagle in .45 ACP. Finally, S&W still makes the 945.

Sig 220 and CZ 97 are your best bets imo

Look at the Stoeger Cougar 8045. It's a Beretta with the name Stoeger stamped on the side. NIB in my neck of the woods for $419. I just picked one up this week. For anything near its price range nothing can touch it.

I know you said you did not want a Ruger but I'll just give you the reasons why I have a Ruger P90. Reliability is 100% accuracy is very good, Has a life time warranty and is made in the U.S. The P90 was built for the 10mm but the round never caught on so Ruger chambered it for the 45. It's over built and will take a life time of +P ammo with no problems. It's also made in Arizona. :D

A little pricey maybe, but Smith is still making the Model 945.

Ruger does not offer a written warranty, lifetime or otherwise, on its firearms:
WHY NO WARRANTY CARD HAS BEEN
PACKED WITH THIS NEW RUGER FIREARM
The Magnuson-Moss Act (Public Law 93-637) does not require any
seller or manufacturer of a consumer product to give a written warranty.
It does provide that if a written warranty is given, it must be
designated as “limited” or as “full” and sets minimum standards for a
“full” warranty. Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. has elected not to provide
any written warranty, either “limited” or “full”, rather than to
attempt to comply with the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Act and
the regulations issued thereunder. There are certain implied warranties
under state law with respect to sales of consumer goods. As
the extent and interpretation of these implied warranties varies from
state to state, you should refer to your state statutes. Sturm, Ruger &
Company wishes to assure its customers of its continued interest in
providing service to owners of Ruger firearms.

The P90 also has a polymer frame and I believe the OP is looking for an "all-metal" pistol.

The P90 is an aluminum frame with polymer grips. The P345 has a polymer fame.

I stand corrected. Thank you for the clarification.:)

Yup that was my first thought as well. The P220. I shot one, fine pistol.

I do LOVE the 1911 but if I couldn't get my hands on one and had to grab something else I'd want the P220 (Or a P226 in .40 S&W)
