Will this work on these synthetic finished wood stocks?

I just got a used one that is in really nice condition except for a depression on one side. The grain seems intact but I don't know if the synthetic finish that Ruger uses will allow the steam to pass into the wood fibers.

Anyone tried this & did it work

Not if it's any good, it won't. Steaming works by swelling the wood fibers with moisture. That requires water be able to permeate the wood and any finish the protects well from moisture won't let that happen. Steaming is normally done to a stripped stock before applying finish.

Ruger used to use a sprayed-on finish, and yes, steam would pass right through it. I don't know if they have changed the finish over the years. Finishes that totally seal the wood (like Remington 700 finish) will fog or lift off if you steam them.

Makes sense to me.
What would you suggest I do (other than just live with it)
