In the world of Colt AR's, we have the 6920. With the exception of the 16" barrel instead of 14.5", and it being semi-auto only, it's a faithful clone of the mil-spec M4.

I'm wondering if Colt has ever offered a civilian or LE version of the 20" M16A2? I mean 20" government profile barrel, chrome lined with 1/7 twist.

I've only ever seen target heavy barrel models from Colt with the 20" barrel. I assume this is because they really only build semi's for the LE market, and they're not as interested in rifles as carbines but what do I know. Just wondering if there's a model out there I'm not aware of.

I'm not sure, but Bravo Company makes just that: 20 inch, 1:7 twist, chrome lined. Sorry I don't know about colt but that's all the help I can offer.

Just wondering.. is it a weight issue that compels you to want a government profile barrel??

Yup. Bought one in the early `90s.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know about the 6550. Looking around it seems they're ALL pre-ban, which means $$$$. I guess it'll be a Bravo company for me to replace the 20" Bushmaster I sold.

To Dan, who wondered about why I would want the Gov't profile, it's for weight. Carrying a heavy barrel, or having to aim it standing up is a pain for me.

To which ban are you refering?

Pre-ban as in made before the 1994 assault weapon ban.
