How acutate is a CZ SP-01? Let's say it was in a Ranson Rest and shooting at 50 yards, what do you think the group would be? I'm torn between getting a new SP-01 or waiting (and waiting...) until a second hand Sig P226 X-Five Allround in 9mm comes along. Which would be the better gun? I want it to be as accurate as possible for shooting targets at 25 yars and 50 yards. And in time will do some IPSC with it.

Thanks, Bill.

I would say wait on the Sig. I saw an X-5 at Collectors Firearms in Houston and the trigger is quite impressive. They get them in from time to time so check their website and see what they might have. Calguns also gets guns like that too. I don't work for any of these shops, they just handle good guns and often hard to find stuff.

The Sig X-Five .....but hold out for the top end X-Five ( all stainless, wood grips, and the big thing is - it has the adjustable trigger ) ---the other models of the X-Five do not have the adjustable trigger.

I have an X-Five ( top end one ) in .40S&W and its a great gun / I'm looking for another one in 9mm ( preferably lightly used ). But right now there are not many around new / Sig says more are coming in July / August probably. I do see the All Around and the Tactical version around pretty often in the bigger Sig Dealers shops.

This is the top end one ...

Interesting you guys like the Sig. There's something about them for sure. I would have to get the Allround, other than the top of the line one, as I need the double action trigger to be production class in IPSC.

There is one gun that dominates in IPSC Production class. The CZ SP-01 Shadow (http://czcustom.com/CZ-75-SP01-SHADOW-PolyCoat-9mm.aspx). I own, and would recommend a custom Shadow from the CZ Custom Shop (http://czcustom.com/CZ75_SP01_SHADOW_CustomShop.aspx).

If you must have a 5" barrel gun, there is the 5.4" barrelled CZ Tactical Sport (http://czcustom.com/CZ-75-Tactical-Sports-9mm.aspx). Of course, I'm also waiting for the custom Tactical Sport (http://czcustom.com/cts9mmblueinv.aspx) to become available again.

Distortion, yours is a nice looking gun. How tight are the groups at 50 yards? I'm looking to buy a steel framed gun. Maybe the SP-01 Standard. To be IPSC Production class I think the trigger needs to be SA/DA so one of those nice looking stainless 75 wouldn't do being SA.

I haven't shot it that far, and using a rest. I mainly use it for steel target speed matches (http://www.lagator.org/lssclubpage.htm). The farthest I've shot it was 25 feet at the range. As the saying goes, it's more accurate than I am, meaning I'm sure my shooting skills are the limiting factor. If I concentrate, and shoot it single action, I can hit a bullseye if I want. I usually shoot about a 3 to 4 inch group at 25 feet when I shoot a full mag (18 rounds). I'm at work right now, but when I get home, I'll look at my targets...

I'm a CZ fan and have a custom shop SP-01. I think the Sig would probably outshoot the CZ out of the box. Bar-sto makes a match barrel for the CZ, so this could possibly squeeze a little more from the CZ.

I had a Tactical Sport in .40 and it's basically a CZ-97 frame with a special factory top-end. Talk about a near recoil-less pistol!! However, I did not get the accuracy I was expecting, but in all fairness I did not take the time to work up an accurate load.

I think a contributing factor to serious accuracy for either pistol will be building the load it likes. I'm not impressed with factory offerings in 9mm or 40 for precision shooting.

There are SP-01s and SP-01s.

If you like the CZ guns, look into the OTHER CZ Competition guns, too -- including the Champion (discontinued recently, but available used), the TACTICAL SPORT, the Custom Shop version of the 75B SA, or the SP-01 Shadow Target (a special version of the SP-01) -- all can be seen below.

The Shadow Target should be nearly as good as the SIG, will run in the IPSC PRODUCTION CLASS etc. and do it at a substantially lower cost than the SIG. (If you're still entranced by the SIG, you could use the SP-01 Shadow Target as an interim gun. I had a SIG P-210-6 a few years back, and understand and appreciate the charisma and functionality of a well-done SIG.)

Thanks for your excellent support and advice guys. Being new to this I'm looking and learning, and I'll post a photo of what I end up getting.

They are both good guns but one is in the $650-700 rang the other $1700-2000. that's a big difference. That's a lot of practice $$$$$$$$ down range. I'm guessing that you don't shoot as well as a ranson rest or as well as these guns can shoot. I know I don't, I'm not knocking your abilities, so don't take it that way. Nothing wrong with the CZ that is for sure. Tell ya the truth I would love the Sig but can't justify $$$. I have a CZ TacSport in 9mm and love that thing. Good luck.

Of course, you never know what (http://czcustom.com/SigSauerFirearms.aspx) you'll find (http://czcustom.com/p226x5-9.aspx) at the CZ Custom Shop (http://czcustom.com/).

LOL, I'd be the worst shot out of the lot of us. But I kinda wanted a gun I could "grow into".

And thanks again Guys :)

I have owned CZ75 variants for years and they are good guns with an excellent grip but... the cult following that has evolved around them of late is rediculous.

I never paid more than $350 for a CZ, it's an Eastern European weapon and does not posess the refinement of a Sig-Sauer not matter how much image revamping and gun magazine writers they pimp themselves out to.

If you are truly looking for something truly fine then get the Sig.

I was at a range once where a guy was shooting a customized CZ. I forget what sport he competed in, but I was very impressed with the gun. I'm sure the starting price is way lower than the Sig and the difference can be used towards some very good gun smithing. The Sig X-Five is a bit pricey.

Substitute "Glock," "H&K," or "SIG" for "CZ75" in the sentence above, and the statement would be just as true.

And, any of them can be made better with good gunsmithing -- and that costs money. It can be done at the factory, or later.

Let's start by saying I am a huge fan of CZ firearms of all shapes and sizes, but I carry a Sig P226 EVERY DAY. I have never picked up a pistol that shot better right off the bat. I can't make the thing jam, wet, dry, dirty, clean, it doesn't matter, it will go bang. I even loaded spent casings in the mag along with live rounds, fed every one. If I had to pick one weapon to bet my life on, it would be a Sig P226.

Now since this is a target gun, I would still go Sig because it fits my hand like a glove. The CZ is a fine gun but I have more experience with the Sig. Mine is exceptionally accurate and I can rapid fire shoot it quite well, something to consider if you plan on IPSC. See if you can get hold of both and shoot them before you decide. Even if you can only shoot a regular P226, it would be a good comparison.

They are plenty accurate. My 25 yard groups are better than this on shot by the factory at 24M. This is the Competition model with the non adjustable trigger but it is just about optimum anyway. The negative thing I hear about them is that the internal extractors are prone to failure and it is impossible to get replacements without sending the slide assembly off to either SIG or the famous SIG guy who'se name I forget.
Are there any extensive users who have input about the extractor?

I own both a CZ 75 SP-01 custom shop and SIG P226 X-5 Tactical. Both are very accurate and a joy to shoot however I would rate the trigger on the custom shop a little better than the OE X-5 Tactical. If price is not an issue, the All Around is a good choice, however if cost is a concern, I consider the SP-01 custom to be the best value.

Both CZ and Sig are good guns. Both will probably last long enough for your grand kids or great grand kids as long as its taken care of. If you can handle and shoot both, that's the best way to pick any firearm.

I liked the CZ, but the sig p226 just felt better to me. The only reason i'd sell my p226 is for another p226 :D .

I just love my CZ 75B SA/DA. It's by far the best shooting gun I have had the luck to shoot and it is also the most accurate.

Anyone that shoots my CZ wants one or at least wishes that their gun was as accurate. I could not be happier!:D
