The NY State Police switched to the 45 GAP a while ago. Is there any difference or tactical advantage besides getting a slimmer grip? I searched and cant find a thread on this one. For all I can tell, they are both the same except for the slimmer grip.

fanboys....

Just how does a .45GAP make a slimmer double stack grip than .45ACP?

It's shorter front to rear for a smaller overall circumference. However the width is probably the same.

Fishslayer,

I've held the .46 GAP Glock pistols, and they are easier by far to hold than the .45 ACP versions! The length of the grip makes it harder to hold those double stack .45s.

If I had the bucks, I would not mind having one of the sub-compact Glock .45s.

the .45gap fits in the 9mm/.40 frames but only holds 10 rounds in the fullsize. the performance of the gap is marginally better than a standard .45acp because of the charge being packed into a smaller space. but there is no .45gap +p loads and with +P loads the .45 ACP has the advantage. plus if you can wrap your hands around a G21 then you also get 3 more rounds.

I think its pretty good if you have tiny baby hands. I dont though.

Yeah, why would anybody want a G19 or G17 grip?

Ballistically, they are practically identical. Cost wise there is a 35%-ish premium for the GAP over the ACP. Availability is also worse, but they can be found. Naturally, there is no difference in cost of reloading.

I've not spent any more for the GAP ammo than I have for ACP (I buy online for all my ammo needs; better price = more shooting ;)).

The Glocks in GAP are shorter cycle than the Glocks in ACP. I don't know if it makes a perceptible difference or not, but I definitely prefer my G38's to the G30 I used to have (after comparing them back to back).

Hard to get ammo for and reload for. That said I have two guns that shoot .45ACP. Not adding any .45ACP to the list.

The .45 GAP is shorter and is harder to find and will probably die out.

Naturally, there is no difference in cost of reloading. When last I checked GAP was loaded to approximately ACP +P pressure levels. But availability will be spotty. I've heard some people say that GAP is more available than ACP because demand is lower. That's if they stock GAP at all.

We have the GAP at the store I work at. We have it because we bought it...and never sold it : |

Generic calibers FTW

Well, I dunno. I've heard good things about both. I guess the GAP is for Girls and men with really small hands.

I'm kidding.

But I wonder how well a GAP Subbie would do. GAP isn't a bad round at all. It probably will soon be shining in the CCW market.

Uhhgghh the GAP vs. ACP topic.

Coming from someone who owns a .45 GAP pistol:

- Ammo is cheaper in my area for .45 GAP at a few certain stores, such as $79.00/250 rounds of JHP Speer Gold Dot in .45 GAP

- Glock does not make a pistol with the same small dimensions as the Glock 39 in a .45 ACP (I own a G39)

- Shooting a .45 GAP back to back with the exact same pistol chambered in .40 S&W makes one realize the felt recoil on the .45 GAP is mild by comparison

- I was offered a straight up trade for a .45 ACP Glock that retails more than my .45 GAP Glock, and I cannot pull the trigger on the trade because the .45 GAP simply points and shoots amazingly well

The .45 GAP is not the ideal choice for a ton of range shooting due to ammo (non) availability at your local Wal-Mart, and it usually does cost more than .45 ACP. But for defensive purposes and an an amazingly balanced, great shooting pistol they fit quite nicely IMO.
