Ruger SR9

Yeah, I know, its probably a bit of a dumb question but I need help. I bought my first pistol (a Ruger SR9) on my own and with next to no help (i did months of research, of course). I have been from the bottom of cub scouts and all the way to the top rank in boy scouts so i understand how to sight in a rifle and what the sight picture should look like on a rifle. Needless to say they did not allow shooting handguns at any function so this is a bit new to me. I understand how to adjust the sights on my SR9 for wind-age and such so its really more a question of what my sight picture should look like with my pistol and of course any other input would help. I haven't had the time lately to go to a gun shop and ask. I just want to be sure I learn and execute this correctly. Thanks

I don't think it's any different than a rifle, you shouldn't be shooting real long distances, so pic decent distance that you can still see the target well with. I just went through this with my new SR9. At about 20 yards it was shooting about 6" too high. I simply used the rest at the range to steady the gun, took about 3 shots to determine about how far it was off.

Now after reading the manual took me a bit to figure out this..."To adjust for elevation, rotate the screw in the rear sight clockwise or counterclockwise to lower or raise the sight, respectively".

Turn clockwise to lower, counter clockwise to raise. I did this in quarter turns of the screw, took another three shots and repeated the process until it was right on. Quarter turns may be a bit much, it didn't take much as I recall.

Hope this helps. Just make sure that there is even light on each side of your front sight and you want it even across the top.
