Hi Guys I'm sending a 1911 in to Springfield for a trigger job and they asked me for my preferred trigger release poundage. My other 1911s vary from less than 4 to over 6 pounds. I'm comfortable with a release of less than 4 pounds. What do you guys think ?

I've had pistols down to 2.5, but I managed to cause some serious problems by tweaking a spring during a detail stripping...:(

I'd recommend 3.5lbs or higher.

I prefer all my 1911s at right around 4lbs. It is just my preference.

A good trigger job at 4lbs will feel like a lighter trigger.

My 1911's always end up at about 3.5lbs, though I have one w/ a longer roll trigger that's just over 3lbs. I like to be able to address the trigger w/ a little pressure to initiate the trigger stroke. Having too light of a trigger is distracting for me because you've got to pay more attention to how you address the trigger when setting up and in follow through.

All of mine are between 3# and 4#, whether they're for carry or competition; I don't want to pick up a gun and have to worry about whether it's the one with the "competition trigger" (BANG! Oooops, that's the one that 1.5# :o) or the one with the "carry trigger".

:D

I'll go against the grain. I'd tell them them I want one about 2# with a good positive return.

i think 3.5 is more than substantial

all depends on what your going to do with it. range only or CCW. CCW dont go below 4.5 lbs is the rule...

I suggest between 3--3.5lb; done right it feels lighter.

Again! Depends on what it is used for.

Target, bullseye shooting - 3.5lbs
Carry, Self Protection, IPSC - 4.5lbs or greater. Any less invites accidental discharge and potentional legal ramifications.

Less than 3lbs - Possibility of light strikes and hammer falling to half cock.

My favorite is 3.5#. For me, it doesn't go off too easily (to cause a whoops) or too hard.

Personally, I'd probably keep it between 4 and 5 pounds if it might ever be used anywhere other than competition.

A good trigger job with no creep in that range will feel absolutely wonderful.

Here's another vote for around 4 lbs. If you try to get a trigger on any gun too light, you may end up having other issues given time. Light primer strikes, and Safety issues both come to mind when thinking about too light of a trigger job. I've handled some well-tuned 1911's that had some really light triggers, and they all have had some kind of "kink" at one time or another.

I remember one time shooting a guys "Custom" 1911, that had a 2.5 lb trigger. I remember thumbing the safety up after putting one in the chamer, and when I was pointing the gun down range, and thumbed the safety off, the hammer fell and the gun went off. I'm of the opinion, that a 1911 trigger is best somewhere between 3.5 to 4.5 lbs of pressure.

3 1/2 lbs is where I like mine ...for a range gun / or for my carry gun ...in
9mm, .40S&W or in .45 acp in my 1911's.

My favored 'carry' 1911 wears a 2lb trigger, but it feels lighter

I'll confess that my favored 'carry' Witnesses wear 'safe' :barf: triggers......
