Recently just acquired a Springfield XD45 after much deliberation and Range practicing. I was wondering how hot or not I could take the loads on this here handgun. Bear in mind that the range ammo I used was strictly FMJ 230g.

Are you asking for reloading information or factory ammunition recommendations ?

Both, but preferably for factory recommendations. It's purpose is home defense, but it may become a duty weapon.

Winchester Supreme Elite is good as is Hornaday Critical Defense, I bought 140 rounds of the Winchester at walmart and fired 100 of them at the range just to make sure my XD liked that ammo, it did. It was a little pricey though:eek:

I'm old school when it comes to 45acp. I like 230gr FMJ. It's already a big hole and good penetration. My concern with HPs is the relatively low velocity as compared to say 9mm, magnums or 40cal. With FMJs there is "no magic" Jeff Cooper said something like Big bullets let in lots of air and lots of liquid out" paraphrased.

This is a modern, new production handgun from a reputable company in a very popular chambering. Thus, it's rated for all .45 Auto ammo produced in accordance with SAAMI specs, which means pretty much any ammo that you can purchase that is built by any reputable company.
As for handloaded/reloaded ammunition, it's just like 98% of all the gun makers on earth: They don't recommend it and they tell you to never ever do it and they say that they won't be responsible for what happens if you do. But we all do it anyway and as long as you (of course!) stick to published loads and stay under SAAMI guidelines for your loads, then the gun will be happy to eat all of those as well.

I'd say the best .45acp rounds for protection/concealed carry are the Winchester Ranger T 230gr JHP(bonded), the Speer Gold Dot 200gr JHP, the Remington Golden Saber 230gr JHP +P, the DoubleTap Ammo 230gr JHP +P

I'd take a good look at Federal 230-gr HSTs or Tactical Bonded. Better expansion through clothing than the old Hydra-Shoks.
It always amuses me to see those who extol the virtues of hardball under the theory that JHPs may not expand. At their worst, if they don't expand at all, they're still more effective than FMJs because of their blunter noses. :D

Corbon 200gr JHP+P or Corbon 185DPX +P both are over a 1000fps and work well I use the 185DPX in all my compacts and recoil is less the regular 230 ball

Well...yeah, I agree. The 64000 dollar question is...is blunter THAT much better than FMJ to justfy the cost of the HP which didn't open?:D
and assumng identical hits, woul he have not fallen from a mere FMJ? :D

If you want a hot load I think a call to the Springfield company asking if the XD .45 can handel Buffalo Bore 255 gr, .45 acp or need stronger spring + buffer?

If you're looking at reloading, be advised that XDs won't eat SWCs. :(

Springfield said ok on 255 gr, ( +P+ ) the bullet is supported ...but not a steady diet for wear on gun.

This is good ammo. I no longer have a .45, but have 2 boxes of this left, if anyone wants to try it.
