Since the rumors about lead WW use being phased out, I'm becoming more determined to get all I can while I can. So on a whim I stopped by the one and only tire shop here locally... The deal was if I bring empty buckets to change theirs out with, I can take the full ones. I loaded easily 400 lbs of WW's into by truck yesterday--and all it cost me was a few empty buckets. Good-lord, I'm gonna have one hell of a melting session!

So I guess (in order to keep this from being a 1-post thread)... That moves me to wonder... In other threads I've seen and posted, the question has come up more than a few times about how much ammo, powder, primer, etc you keep as a minimum par. So...How much lead do you keep on hand for casting at any given time? I have about 65 lbs. in ingot form and about 500 lbs (now) that I still have to melt down.

When I get down to 2-300 pounds in ingot form I get a little worried. I collect lead all the time, but will only smelt when I get 4-500 pounds of WWs.

I keep around 400 lbs of lead in ignot form on hand at any given time. When I get to 100 pounds, I make it a priority to re-stock.

I worry `bout runnin low all the time !!!!& scrounge when I can !!!

I use to get 120 lbs from a 5 gal bucket , now between the stems , labels & zinc weights I`m lucky to get 80 lbs. & I spent my share on beer & pizza for the guys to keep the WW in the buckets !!!

I now buy isotope lead for castin it`s cleaner & has a very consistent alloy content & is a some what steady supply for now .
