I have decided that my next rifle purchase will be a Remington 700 SPS Varmint in a left-handed .223 configuration. I am looking into scope options for it and would like some opinions. Let me know which of these scopes you think would be a good idea to top off that rifle.

These are the options I've pulled up on the Wholesale Sports website, they may have more available but I don't have a recent catalogue. I'd like to keep it under $450.

Weaver Grand Slam 3-10X40 $419.95

Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12X40 AO $339.95

Leupold VX-II 3-9X40 $439.95

Just a little step up from what you listed, and in your budget.

^^^ Agree!

I had an Elite 4000 (older model) 6-24x40 on my 22-250 Remington 700 VLS. Visibly better than the 3200 or the VX-III. Great mechanism, too - you could adjust it all over the place and it always returned to the same zero.

That is a great price, too!

I have this one on my .25-06 and really like it VXII 4-12X40AO (http://swfa.com/Leupold-4-12x40-VX-II-Riflescope-P2577.aspx). Plus I have the 4-16X40AO Bushnell Elite 4200 mentioned above on my 6.5X55 and like it as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either scope again. Look around I traded up for my 4-12 VXII and got it for about $350 NIB. Picked up the Bushnell for $150 from my buddy at a pawn shop and it was basicly NIB as well, no ring marks and with the sunshade and all the paperwork even the warranty card.

The Elite 4200 6-24 X 40 with the dot reticle will soon sit on my .204. Gonna see if the hype is real.

You might want to look at Nikon's Monarch scope line like the 4-16x42 or the 3-12x42 scopes which have the side focus feature. You will really appreciate this side focus feature when you take up a prone position to shoot at a woodchuck that is 350 yards away and you don't have to reach way out in front of your scope to adjust the focus like you do on objective lens focus models. It's much easier to reach the side of your scope to focus/adjust the parallax on your scope. This is just something you might want to consider.

I really like the Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mmAO... They can be had for under $400 on www.gunbroker.com if you look around.
