I have a buddy who thinks a Bushmaster Carbon 15 upper might be the way to go on a lightweight AR15 rifle build, but isn't very familiar with the product. The need for lighter weight stems from some health issue and hiking in with a heavier gun. As he doesn't do the internet, I offered to solicit insight for him.

He is specifically concerned with issues of accuracy and reliability. I believe he plans on hunting with it (instead of his heavier AR15 setup that he has used in the past).

Also, I have looked without any luck. Is there a corresponding carbon rail systm as well?

I built my super-lightweight carbine using a stripped Carbon-15 Upper, a Bushmaster 16" lightweight barrel, and a Cav Arms Lower (get these while you can as our government just shut down all Cav Arms FFL operations ).

The result is a complete gun that weighs only 5 lb. 1 oz without magazine and runs great.

This is my favorite gun to shoot as it handles beautifully and weighs almost nothing. :)
