Redfield Scopes

Has anyone decided to buy a new Redfield scope. They are going to be manufactured by Leupold.

I'm was looking a them the other day, I was thinking for my sons rifle. I'd like to see some customer reviews though, so I may wait a month or two.

I believe the quality will be superb. It may be better to buy one early, before the word get's out and the price goes up.

I also would like to see some reviews on them. I had one a very long time ago. It came with the rifle I bought, and if memory serves me right it was a o.k. scope. Lets hope they put out some good ones.

I seen of the comeback also.... I know several of the bigtime hunters back in the late 80s all had redfield... guess they were pretty good back then... I used to hunt with a guy that had one in 86 and 87... it was a very good scope at the time,,durable,,accurate,,clear....seemed high end back then.

It'll be interesting to see what the quality level is on the new ones. I have an older Five Star mounted on a 700 VLS. I'd buy three more if I could find them. Excelent clarity and repeatable tracking. Hope the new ones are the same.

I would guess they will be very similar to the Rifleman line at a slightly less expensive level.

I remember back in the '70s the two big scope competitors were Leupold & Stevens and Redfield. Now they're all one.

Redfield's were even selected for the Vietnam era sniper rifles. There were certainly top notch in their day. They got shut down by the EPA for polluting groundwater outside Denver. The weren't in the financial position to fix the problems and closed their doors. The older Redfield's still bring pretty good prices on Ebay.

I'll try a new Redfield.
I've got a 1960's vintage Redfield and it's still clear & works great on my Rem. 722. Same with my 1962 Unertl fixed 4x scopes.

I've got an old Redfield "Widefield" on my Remmy Game Master, and if the new scopes are anywhere near as good at this old warhorse, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. My pop put this scope on somewhere in the 70s if I remember correctly replacing the original Weaver that was on the gun when he got it new in the mid 50s.

I was a US Army trained sniper during the Vietnam War and carried what was then the XM21 (X designation for experimental weapons system) and now known as the M21. The daylight scope was a Redfield 3-9 power with an ART camming device on the variable power adjustment ring. They were a decent scope for their day.

They have the silly Rugeresque countdown banner down and the new scopes are up.

I didn't go though each scope listed, but the specs on the 2-7x33 are identical to the Rifleman 2-7x33 scope. I assume the others are as well. The discount to the Leupold branding is significant on the 2-7 model (30%). I assume the others are in line. Not a bad deal on an entry level scope. I had my fingers crossed that it would be a duplicate line to the vx-ii line, but no dice.

*click adjustment....maybe they have some things in common with the vx-i line. Need to do a little more research.

i got one on a browning 81 lever action 308 .its 2x7x34 sure looks good going to shoot it soon i like the 2x7 power best
