Started looking at 9mm's recently and came across the SR9 but I'm concerned with the many problems I'm reading it can have like peening and jamming. A friend has a Taurus, say's it's great but it's got a bad rep as well. Depending on who you talk to they are both either great guns or the worst guns every manufactured. I'd like to hear from acutal owners what they think about them. I know I'll hear a lot about Glock and CZ but the price of the Ruger and Taurus are where I need to be.

Thanks for your help!

ive heard great things about the SR9 and Rugers customer service has been excellent from what i have experienced and heard. Plus Ruger is an American company that makes an excellent product.

In my experience, having owned both SR9 and PT-111, the Ruger was a piece of junk and would never shoot accurately due to the "glock type" trigger they fitted in the recall. Three of us tried to shoot it and could hardly hit a paper plate at 15 yds. The trigger pull was very inconsistent and when I called Ruger about it, they implied it might be me that was the problem. I traded it back to the dealer on a Hi-Power and a lot happier. As for the Taurus, my wife bought one for CCW and wound up not shooting it very much. It was a good little pistol and functioned well. I didn't like the trigger pull but she didn't mind it. Finally traded it recently on a shotgun for my son. My wife would really rather shoot the Hi-Power anyway.

My suggestion is to look closely at the Kahr CW9 before you buy either of the other two. Better made pistol and a lot more accurate.

I have the "third" generation Taurus PT111, most complaints were about the earlier generations. I like the trigger with the second strike capability and also the safety. One of the reasons I sold my Glock 26 was no safety. I usually carry the Taurus in the front pocket of my cargo pants. I tried the Ruger but didn't like the trigger and size. My other carry gun is a Sig and a Kel-Tec P32. My Taurus has functioned so far with no problems. Bill

i agree that the 3rd gen taurus' are better quality than the older ones and from my experience they are pretty accurate.. never have been a big ruger pistol fan.;)

If you can't shoot an SR9 accurately, you are indeed the problem. I have over a thousand rounds through mine without a hiccup. I recently bought an M&P 9 and it is my new favorite nine. I can't say enough good things about it.

When I was looking for a 9mm pistol, I entertained the notion of an SR9. That is until I actually touched and held one. Thing feels like crap to me, plasticky and cheap. I put it down and never looked at it again. I like Ruger stuff, but I'll never own that one.

Take the Ruger, I got rid of my pt111. It was nothing but trouble.

I own both a Ruger SR9 and a Taurus PT111Mil/pro.

Have have nothing but good service from both. However both have different missions. Not that they both could not be used for the same thing. They also have a lot in common. Just that the Ruger SR9 is larger than the PT111 Mil/pro.

The PT111 is more of a specialist gun comparable to being a snub revolver size gun. The PT111 just carries more ammo than the snub revolver.

The SR9 I have was one of the early recalled ones. A new trigger assembly was installed and the gun returned, pronto. I did not like the change at first. I liked the old trigger, but due to safety concerns the pistol was retrofitted with the new trigger.

After taking the SR9 out to the range and some previous dry firing with snap caps the trigger problem became a thing of the past. I like the new trigger. It's like any other two sectioned part DAO trigger, takes some minor getting used to, but the gun functions well, shoots well, and has had no hiccups.

The SR9's mission is more of that of a medium or full sized gun for carry or defense purposes and works well in those areas.

The PT111 works well for CCW as well and as a house gun.

SA/DA triggers are what the PT111 has and is actually like any light DAO triggered gun.

Can't go wrong with either gun.

Ruger recalled just the first batch of SR9s, fixed them, and the newer SR9s have the new trigger module and are completely safe and reliable.

The PT111s are accurate and reliable as well for their intended purpose.

I much prefer the Ruger. The Taurus is nothing but trouble.

Ok I'll be the first one to say it. Buy a used Glock for about the same price as the Ruger or Taurus and you won't have any concerns.:D

I think that for that price range, Taurus is the way to go, but not necessarily the PT111. I used to own a PT111 and had no problems with it (so long as it was kept clean), but you may want to check out the 709 slim, especially if you're looking for a CCW. I don't own a 709, but handling it in the store, it seemed to be better than the PT111 in every way but capacity. The trigger was better, takedown was better, and the sights were better. It was big enough to fit my med-large hands and go IWB, but still small enough to fit in my pocket as well.

Why not a P95?? Generally $100 less than the SR9 and a proven pistol.

That $100 could buy spare mags and ammo.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'm looking for a P95 now since I like the feel and size better than the SR9. This is a great forum!
