Which is most accurate 7-08 or 308. Most tactical rifles are in 308 but is the 7-08 which is a necked down 308 not just as accurate and as deadly? It has better BC and has good bullet weights.
Thanks

I've heard that the 7mm-08 is just as accurate and just as deadly. Maybe more so.

The .308 has the advantage of available Mil. Surp. ammo for practice . Also there are many specialty loads , such as Hornady TAP and lots of factory Match loads for the .308 . :D

I find it exceedingly unlikely that either cartridge is inherently more accurate than the other, particularly to any degree which would be significant to even an above average shooter. Their trajectories are so close in many/most cases as to be irrelevant. 308 has the advantage of cheaper and more available ammo, a fact which is negated if you load your own. 7-08 has the advantage of slightly less recoil. 308 has the advantage of slightly larger rounds available. Personally, I'd take the 7.

I'm with Peeza on the accuracy; however, if I'm going for a Tactical platform, 308 is the winner. I'm biased because my two 7's are 280 and 7mmRM.

Accuracy is simply a measurement of repeatability and shoudn't be confused with trajectory. Both chamberings are accurate; differences between them are attributable to the gun or load morso than to the chambering itself.

In most loadings, the 7mm08 has a slightly flatter trajectory and will have less drop at any given distance.

Actually, for better BC, the 260/6.5x47/6.5Creed is probably marginally better (and heavy enough to have deadly effect on live targets).

Special loaded 243 with fast twist barrels may work too, but that's getting a little light for non-paper targets bigger than a dog or a goat at 300+ yards.

As others have said, most shooters won't notice a difference on paper.

I've owned neither but carried, shot and hunted with both. I fell in love with the 7-08 and that would be my chioce. Great balistics. I have all the big game rifles I need but, I have thought of trading in my .270 for one. It would be a good partner for my 7mm RemMag.
