Good ammo for M1a

A friend of mine is planning on picking up a Springfield M1a or a M1a socom 16. I told him that the gas system is made for military 7.62x51. I understand that most commercial ammo can beat up the op rod.

What is the good commercial ammo to use in these guns?

He doesn't reload so that isn't an option.

Your thinking of the M1 GARAND not the M1A (A.k.a The commercial M14)

You do not want to use a 180 gr bullet in the M1A.
