so i went and got me a mint used uspc 40 and the date code is AB so by looking on hk's site i think this means it was made in 2001 is this correct?

also if this was made in 2001 is this a v1,v2, etc?

also what does (lem) mean? like when someone says i have an lem model

thanks

2001 would be correct.

LEM stands for Law Enforcement Modification. It is basically a Double Action Only mechanism that uses a two-piece hammer to allow it to be pre-cocked in a similar fashion as the Glock and some other striker-fired pistols. It is intended to give it a lighter, smoother, more consistent trigger.

Year of manufacture won't have any effect on which version it is (except that the LEM didn't exist prior to whatever year they introduced it), as "version" with HK's just refers to which style of lockwork they put on that particular pistol, not any sort of chronological evolution.
