I have a bushmaster v-match carbine. The lower is stamped 223-5.56 mm and the barrel is stamped 5.56 1/9 h bar. Now i know that the 5.56 is tyhe military equivalent of the 223 just a little hotter load. Question is would i be safe to shoot 5.56 surplus ammo in my bushmaster. A local shop got in a shipment of what appears to more commercial grade 5.56 ammo in and it is running about $1.50 cheaper per 20 rounds. Thanks.

Yes the barrel marking is what counts, you don't want to shoot 5.56 out of a .223 barrel but shooting .223 out of a 5.56 is barrel is good to go. Always go by the barrel markings, not the lower.
