Winchester 70 7mm wsm

I had a guy call me today to see if I would be interested in a Winny model 70 in 7mm wsm. I've checked out the cartridge and being that I handload I don't see any real downside to the short mag. I owned a m70 in 300wsm for a while but never shot it. Any opinions on the rifles or the cartridge? I've also read about people using the 300wsm case and necking it down to fit the .284 bullet. I can't recall why they said they were doing it but it was supposed to help out accuracy? Anyone know of this? It's for a pretty good price so it'll be hard to pass up. Thanks

I'm a caliber traditionalist but if power in a short action is what you want, 7WSM may be for you.

Not a fan of the Marketing Mags. Cases and ammo are twice the cost. With the preferred 160s, the 7RM @ 3050 just can't be beat.

I'm not to worried about ammo costs. Once I purchase my brass, which isn't too bad, then it all costs the same. Anyone have experience with the rifle itself?

I have a new Model 70 Featherweight in .243 and it's a heck of a nice rifle. I'm very impressed with the new Winchesters. The metalwork and woodwork is excellent and the controlled feed action is very smooth. I put a Weaver Classic V scope on it and I'm very pleased with the accuracy.

If the price is righteous, how can you lose? At worst it's trading material. And as a cartridge it's a good deer or elk zapper. :)

my brother has a 223 WSM in a model 70 and its a sweet gun....nother friend of mine has the same in a 25-06 and also a 7mm SM...both sweet shooters.

I'm guessing 275 for the rifle and a cheap simmons 8 point(that will be donated to someone else) isn't too bad.
