I'm looking for my first AK. Prefer 7.62X39. I'm not a tinkerer and don't want to have to tweak anything. Willing to spend $1000.

I found via google East Coast Firearms, offering Lancaster models. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about the distributor or manufacturer?

Any other models and distributors I should be checking out?

Thanks.

Overpriced for the quality.

If you want to go high quality /high budget AK you need a Milled Arsenal Ak, and they are 500 over your budget.

A lightly used pre-ban Ploytech Legend may be in your budget.

I would also consider a SSR-85 for a decent low cost AK, though they have no scope rail, and the parts are used and assembled on a new receiver, you can customize later. Centerfiire systems has those.

You could send a WASR to Jim Fuller at www.rifledynamics.com and let him do his basic rework for around $400. You will have as good (or better) an AK as any Arsenal.

Rifle Dynamics is going to offer reworks on WASRs it will consist of the following,
Correct mag well
Straighten canted front sights, gas blocks and rear sight towers
Fix trigger slap
Remove welded muzzle nut to access threaded barrel
Pin gas piston
Remove sharp edges from controls
Lighten Safety
Fuller rear sight mod
Sandblast and Parkerize
Shipping back to customer

They can do Norrells Moly Resin over park for additional finish protection. 50.00
Refinish wood stocks or replace wood with K-var Poly furniture, 110.00 (includes stock set).
Other services are available

I also have to vote arsenal ... Right now milled SLR 95s are selling for around 800 or less and I would recommend SLR101s is a really nice starter AK and there in the $1000 range ... as posted the Sam 7's are a really nice but there a little more dough .

I bought a Lancaster "russian red" a few months ago and I love it. I've only put around 200 rounds through it so far, but its worked flawlessly. It was fairly accurate out of the box too. Lancaster is known to have an excellent warranty in case anything does go wrong. I think the msrp on the gun is now $899, but the price of most ak's has gone up recently. I definitely recommend...
