While the pics are nice, some further away would also help - since it looks like it could be a very desireable model, indeed.

If it has the Type-C pistol grip stock, it seems to be a Model 1903-A1, made between WWI & WWII by Remington from 1930-1939, worth North of $3-4K

Those had every bell/whistle a Springfield lover could ask for - best action, best finish (pre-WWII's Parkerized/cheapened 1903-A3) and inspector's cartouche - and yours has a Remington rebarrel, ILO an arsenal rebarrel.

According to Brophys book "The Springfield 1903 Rifles" , which is "the" bible concerning 1903,s, your rifle was built by Remington and appears to have been built in late 1941. Remington was contracted by the US government to build 1903;s just prior to WWII. Remington used old machinery from the Springfield and Rock Island armories. The first rifle produced by Remington was not produced in the 1930,s but was delivered in November 1941. Serial numbers were asigned in block lots. This is where there is a fly in the ointment where your rifle is concerned. Rifles produced in 1941 were serial numbered as high as 3348085. Your rifle has a Nov. 1942 Remington barrel. The cartouche "RLB" is an inspectors mark from Remington. All this being said you have what appears to be an EXCELLENT example of a WWII rifle. From the grainy photos it looks to be original and unaltered. Please for the sake of posterity keep it that way. Few rifle are left unaltered as time goes on. Dont refinish, sand the stock, reblue or alter anything. You posess a piece of American history, every scar, dent and ding tell its life story. Instead of trying to hide its small faults, take pride in them, they are its service stripes. If you can post more photos a better assesment can be made. Congradulations on your fine firearm.

It has a stamped 1903A3 trigger guard-floorplate assembly, too.
The rifle was probably refurbished during or after WW II. It is a legitimate service rifle bu I do not think it is original as manufactured.

I have to agree with above post. After seeing more photos you do have a stamped floorplate assembly, which in most cases appeared later in production. Most all 1903,s were refurbished after the war and repacked in cosmoline and put into storage. Then in the 1950,s if my memory serves me correctly, they were declared obsolete and sold through the NRA magazine and DCM programs. None the less you have a great rifle.

Yep - those extra photos show it's not the 1903-A1 I thought it could have been.

A very nice Remington 1903, made before Remington switched to 1903-A3 production and it's production shortcuts like that 1903-A3 stamped trigger guard ILO one of a milled TG.

I've got a never or very limited issued Remington "Springfield 03" very similar to yours except that mine is all original and not refurbrished. Mine has the barrel stamp 'Remington 1942' like yours. Yours as with mine is a straight 03 since they have the leaf barrel back sight. The 03A-1s have a rear peep sight from my understanding. Check the rifling in the barrel since the original Remington barrel had dual rifling and some others had 4 lands per barrel. Surely with this Forum, an expert will be able to enlighten us both.

They are great shooters so enjoy it. Mine does under 3" groups off bench at 110M with open sights and bad eyes. Like one of the previous post said, don't mess with it. Keep wood waxed and metal oiled.

The 1903-A3 is the model with the peep sight- and don't be skeered of the 2-groove bbls. Mine has done quite well at Camp Perry 3 out of the past 4 years.

Correct 10-96. The 03 natural accuracy is hard to duplicate. Mine has 2 lands and I just wish I was a good enough shooter for current competition.
