Anyone have any info on the FNP pistols either in 9MM or .40 caliber? I was looking at one today at Bass Pro. They do look nice, like a cross between a SIG and a Glock. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.:)

Ok. Well, I've been an advocate for the FNP on this forum for a while. I got one earlier this year, and it is quickly ranking in my top picks. I'll give you some information, although I'm not really sure what exactly you're looking for.

1. It is a traditional DA/SA with a decocker, unless you get the USG which has a tumb safety.

2. It is a soft shooter in either caliber.

3. It has a SIG-style take-down lever.

4. It uses double stack magazines.

5. It is a polymer pistol.

6. It utilizes a slighter higher bore axis than say a Glock, much like SIGS.

7. It is heralded as having one of the best triggers for its price point.

8. It was formerly marketed by Browning as the Browning Pro.

9. It is available in 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 Sig, and .45 ACP.

10. It uses a type of slide rail system that can be replaced as the old rails age.

11. It has a hammer-forged barrel with traditional rifling, not hexagonal.

12. It is known to be exceptionally accurate for its price point.

Ok... well, that's just a few things, but they aren't anything you couldn't find out just by picking one up or reading the FNH Catalog. If you want to know something specific, just ask. I'll be happy to help you with what I know.

I have the Pro-9, which was manufactured by FNP for Browning. Very nice handgun. :)

I have an FNP40, love it. Holds a bunch of boolits, 14+1. Nothing Glocky about it. Works and strips like a SIG. Looking for an FNP45. 2 bad my 40 doesn't have night sights.

That's the only reason I didn't buy one recently. Couldn't find a model with them pre-installed or any aftermarket ones either. I'd love to shoot one of them before I buy it as well.

Until then, I'll keep a Springfield TRP on top of the wish list.

I can confirm what Micahweeks said. I just bought an FNP-9 as my very first handgun and it is a superb weapon. The fit and finish are excellent; trigger is smooth and fairly light (compared to CZ's, for example); recoil is soft, and it's a damn good-looking pistol too. You cannot go wrong with an FNP. It is not as well known in the USA as other manufacturers, but FN Herstal makes some of the finest weaponry in the world. Here are a few pics: (mine is a bitone, but you can also get one in matte black, if you prefer)

Macc, that's a fine looking gun you have there. I like the stainless look. You're making me want to go get one of those, too. Stop it! I have bills to pay!
