Im looking for a 9mm my dad and I can shoot, then when i turn i can use for CC. I have a feeling he will want an external safety on it, but i might try to talk him into a G26.

There are allot of 9mm's in that price range. If it was me I would look for a used Sig 226.

Do all Sig pistols have an external safety, except the DAK models?

Most sig pistols do not have an external safety

lots of reliable 9mm in 500-600 and everyone is going to tell you to get their fav. So just go to the local shop and start trying them on, get what feels good in your hands. I like sigs, but that's me.

The Sig 239 does NOT have a safety. Might want to look a taurus PT92 for FS92.

You can also get the Smith & Wesson M&P with an external thumb safety.

If you want it for concealed carry later then get either a CZ P-01 or a Glock 19.

Try them both out and see which one you like better.

m&p fullsize.

It has 3 adjustable backstraps for you and your father to customize to both of your liking.

+1 on the glock 19. i would recommend that over the 26 mainly because it will double as a good range gun and it is very easy to conceal

The GSR 1911's do. The P220 SA does. May be one or two others, but I'm not aware of them.

Most Sigs have decocker levers, and slide stops, and that's it for controls near the frame/slide interface.

DAK Sigs don't have decockers, just slide stops up there.

Don't forget the Ruger SR9, which you can buy new for about $400. It's a heck of a value at that price.

Save 150.00 and get the Bersa 9 UC in DuoTone. Use the spare money for ammo. I have both a matte and a SS which they stopped making in 07 but never a failure in over 2 K rounds now. 13 + 1 and conceals great.

How about the Ruger P 95, for around $350 new ? THAT'S affordable, and mine was the best gun I ever owned. Comes with a slide-mounted safety/decocker these days, from what I can tell.

Another vote for the G19. I bought one last week.

about 85% of all 9mm's fall into this price range...LOL

I opted for the G17 but for 2 reasons 1.) reputation 2.) LEO discount [$424+tax]

BUT if I had to do it all over again I'd opt for the full sized M&P9 instead of the Glock

What about a Browning Hi Power or a CZ 75B? Browning HP is a good gun.
I love my CZ 75 but it's just not a concealed carry gun for me. Too beg and heavy.

+1 G19
I will own one of those someday.

Had just bought a Stoeger Cougar two weeks ago. Got to shoot it today and am very impressed with the pistol. Only fired 50 rounds but is quite accurate. Only thing is it's a .40 wanted a 9mm but they didn't have one. Always wanted a .40 but may still get one in 9MM. This gun is a Beretta 8000 but they sold the machinery to Stoeger who is part of Beretta and are now made in Turkey. And with a price tag of a little over $400 can't beat it. Take a look at them is a well made pistol just as good as my M&P and Glock 19:D They are all metal with safety and Decocker

+ 1 more for the Bersa. My girlfriend carries one and it shoots well and has been 100% reliable in over 4500 rounds that have been put through it so far. It has eaten every type of ammo we have been able to find to put in it. It will even feed SWC reliably.
I carried the 45 versoin of it for 5 years, and would not hesitate to cary it again if I had to. Only draw back on it for me was the weight of it. It is all metal, DA/SA, has an ambisafty, conceals easily, and has a 4 inch bbl. I think her 9 is the same length and somewhat lighter than my 45 Bersa. My dad likes it so much he is going to get one for himself, and one for my step mom.

How are the ergonomics and the recoil on your .40 Stoeger Cougar? I've read that recoil is lower on the Cougar than other, more snappy .40's because of the rotating barrel. Is that your experience? Thanks.

Glock 19! You can't go wrong here!

When I got my first 9mm, I had the same price target. I wanted a primary carry gun that I could take to the range and have fun with. I'm a fairly big guy (6' 3", 280), and all the sub-compacts felt tiny in my hands. After looking at the choices, everything came down to the G17 and the XD-9 service.

The differences between these two were minor (grip angle, mag capacity, etc.). Both are outstanding weapons. I chose the XD because it felt more natural in my hand and it concealed well for me. Needless to say, I have been extremely pleased with my choice (2000+ rounds with zero FTF/FTE--using mostly reloads).

My advice (to echo almost everyone else here) would be to go out and see as many as possible in person. You will find the one that works the best for you.

I was shooting 9mm and the .40 and I really didn't see much difference in recoil between the two calibers.:) Was shooting the M&P9c, Beretta 92FS and the Cougar

Can't go wrong with a glock 19, love mine. Don't carry it that often anymore since I got my sig sp2022, which I also love. Almost got the fn 9, but decided to get the 45, so have no personal experience with that one.

I've shot a lot through my g19 and have never had a problem, but like everyone else has said, you can't buy a gun based on what everyone else says. I'd say away from the cheap guns, but you have to go to the range and shoot and feel the ones you like. Never buy a gun without trying it first.

The FNP 9mm is a good natural pointer for me. But so is the SP2022.

The sig 250 or 226 are also fine firearms. Bersa makes a good steel 9mm. The 17 round 9mm is surprisingly a good shooter.

I am not a fan of the S&W sigma series but I believe the others are fine. I don't personaly like the 2 piece trigger on the M&P... but I hear they are good.

I have heard good things about the Glock and XD also... But you need to find one that is comfortable in your hand and that you will shoot and practice with...If you have large or small hands will make a huge difference.

My wife likes the bersa and kel-tec, more than I do. But my hands are huge, and they fit oddly in my hand. My cup of tea is the full size 1911, sigs, FNP, etc...
