View Full Version : How many rifles do you have

chaz12
May 20, 2009, 10:06 PM
I'm sure this has been asked many times, but I could not get any results from various searches.

I currently own 5: 2 scoped, precision bolt actions rifles in .308 and .223, 2 military surplus bolt action in .30-06 and .303 , and a lever action 30-30. I have bought and sold many in the past, but I consider these 5 to all be keepers and don't want to sell any of them.

I have had the urge to get one more target style rifle(varmint bolt action) in243, but I find myself being reluctant to do so. Some combination of worry about the economy and feeling like I am spending too much on shooting which is just a hobby. I can pay for another rifle in cash without neglecting other needs, but I am definitely reluctant to part with the money right now. I am almost imagining that I would experience buyer's remorse if I went ahead.

Please share how many rifles you own and did you reach a point where you decided that was enough and decided not to spend for any more new ones.

A Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308 and a Ruger 10/22 Deluxe with a walnut stock. I hope to eventually add a Springfield Armory M1A to that, but I'll probably have to wait a few years.

I don't mean to brag, but I've lost count. I believe it is somewhere in the neighborhood of...one. A stainless steel Marlin 60.

Though I dream about having many...AR15, Garand, something in 17HMR, 50cal, etc., etc.

So far just 2: a SAR2 AK74 and a Ruger 10/22

In the future: Mosin Nagant (which I'll have soon), another surplus bolt rifle like an Enfield or Mauser, RRA A2 model AR15, an M4 style AR15, Springfield M1A (SOCOM 16 or Scout Squad), and a Savage Model 10FP (with a stock of my choosing)

according to my wife, too many.

that was my 1st thought...

my father in law was a collector, & we have maintained the balance of his collection... most all of those are older or obsolite blued & wood rifles...

I set out to do a 6 rifle hunting battery of stainless composite rifles... however old single shots keep getting in the way of completing my 5 rifle working battery though... I currently have 3 of my list of 6

but to give you some idea, I just did asign numbers to my list of reloading dies, & I have 48 different dies... almost all are different cartridges, some are very obsolite but there are also few duplicates with regular & match dies in the same caliber though

Zero! <gasp!>

But looking to change that!

Got my eye on a Yugo SKS. Anyone have any experience with them and feel like chiming in? I've been reading posts by the dozens, and all in all, the SKS gets decent reviews. I'm looking for enjoyable shooting out to 100 meters, iron sites; target only.

Sks is a great buy. I just sold mine but that was because the price to shoot was getting high and that prices in the gun were up. If you're looking for a good starter rifle, then the sks will do fine.

Also I only own 1 rifle.

Unless involved in a criminal activity (past/present/future), nobody needs to feel intimidated when listing legal private property, assuming that strangers can not easily find out where we live. Some have gun safes, others have their property insured.

Savage .22, Mini 30, SKS, two MN 44s and recently the LE 'Jungle Carbine'.

Just a comment, but in these threads, no matter which forum, the number of Mosin's, no matter which others are discussed is consistently high. Everybody has one ( or two or twenty ). Not universal, but frequent.

I am having a custom AR15 upper built by Lance at Dane Armory to go onto a Spike's Tactical lower....a 20", Gov-profile, 1/8 floated barrel. I am going to use it in competition and I cant wait to see it.

At the moment, just an Anschutz 64 MPR in .22 with Anschutz aperture sights (trying to teach myself 3-position target shooting). I do much more shotgun shooting, and have three of those.

Rifles I've had and sold, mainly to buy shotguns, knives, and the aforementioned Anschutz:

- Yugoslavian Model 59/66 SKS
- Finnish 1970 "Sneak" Mosin Nagant
- Enfield No. 5 "Jungle" carbine
- Marlin 1894 in .44mag
- Marlin 336 in .30-30
- Winchester 94 in .30-30
- Ruger 10/22 "International" in .22lr
- Kimber 82 "Government" in .22lr
- Anschutz 1407 in .22lr
- Brno ZKM-611 in .22mag

I personally own a frankenstein Double Star M4-gery.

My wife owns a S&W M&P15.

We jointly own a Ruger 10/22.

My son has his own Ruger 10/22.

I'm currently borrowing a Winchester 69A Match from my mom.

So, not nearly enough.

Well I'm down to 142, my 6 daughters to 56 and my wife to 28 after a fire destroyed 240 of ours...thankfully the good ones (historical pieces) were on loan to some of the local museums...

Yes, most were in safes, but the heat was intense, the fireman wouldn't go near it as the ammo kept popping off (150,000 rounds of rifle including .22 LR and 30,000 of shotgun), and spraying water when it's Dec. 26th and -30F cracks open safes and causes the barrels to twist and action to lose their temper...It also causes scopes to heat up and let all their glass fall out or out of alignment and then shrink and crush the glass...

I too inherited the bulk of my collection from relatives, who were all pack rats but they'd been collecting since the mid 1800s...
