I'm interested in putting together (or buying a package) for my first can set up. Initially, I was trying to get a hold of a .22 advantage arms conversion for my Model 23, then machining an adapter for a Gemtech Outback II. The conversion kits are severely back ordered to the point where I may never see one.

My second choice was going with a P22 or Sig Mosquito with the same can. I am weary of the P22 as I hear they wear themselves out rather quickly. The fit and function of the Walther I preferred over the Sig.

A Ruger 22/45, and having the barrel threaded.

Any other ideas? I am familiar with the ruger 22/25 setup, I was wondering how does the sound compare to say a suppressed glock 19? I have not heard in person a suppressed caliber larger than .22LR.

I've never shot a suppressed Glock 19, but the suppressed Ruger 22/45 sounds like a BB gun when fired. I have a suppressed Walther PPK (.380 ACP) and it sounds about like an unsuppressed .22LR when fired. A lot of noise comes from the slide racking and gasses coming out of the chamber.

I never owned a suppressed .22 until we started making cans, and before I bought my own suppressed setup, I did quite a bit of research into which platform would work best for me. I found that the Ruger Mark I/II/III had much less gas/debris blowback than the "slide" designs (like the Sig and Walther, and the 1911 conversions I could get my hands on).

Here are some different setups

I like the Ruger set up. The barrels are pretty thick - what threads do you run? Is the barrel machined and threaded all the way down to accept the suppressor threading 1/2x28TPI or do you recommend an adapter of some sort?

I use a P22 for my company's suppressor testing. I don't care for Ruger .22s. The Buckmark is a hoot to shoot as well as the P22.

All those are 1/2-28, that's the standard threading for .22LR. The one with the wood grips has an adapter which allows it to be "capped" when the can is not in use, and you can't tell it's been threaded (note the original front sight was not moved).

I've shot an HK 45 carbine (of some sort) and all I could hear was the action click-clack when firing. Then again I had muffs on, but still.

Frankly I've come to the conclusion that supressors are a waste of money, at least in my situation. The only place I can shoot a firearm is at the range, and it does no good to have your own gun supressed when everyone else is letting fly with their boomers.

Now if you have your own land with a couple hundred acres, and don't want to annoy the neighbors I can see how a can would come in handy.
