i have a 870 Express Magnum for home defense and would like to have a buttstock that will take some of the pain out of shooting 3" shells. no folders or pistol grips please.
any nice ones out there...any info is appreciated:)

I recommend the Knoxx SpecOps stock, but it's pistol grip, full butt stock design. I have it on my HD 870P.

You might consider the Knoxx CompStock. Go to http://www.blackhawk.com/catalog/Stocks,10.htm

Before replacing the stock, why not take a look at a nice recoil pad?

Limbsaver, Pachymar, Remington, and Kickeez all make nice pads that will absorb a good deal of recoil.

2 3/4" shells are more than adequate for home defense. There really isnt a need for 3" shells in a house gun.

There are also 2 3/4" reduced recoil loads that will help reduce recoil even more.

Nothing works better than wood IMHO. Make sure it fits you properly, and get a premium recoil pad fitted. Remington is really bragging on their new Supercell, I haven't tried one yet but if it works better than the R3/LimbSaver, it'll be something.

Agreed, no need for magnum shells. In fact, get some reduced recoil OO buck. Recoil pad (maybe), but I've seen plenty of 95 lb small framed female LEO trainees who have never shot anything handle a 12g with reduced recoil shells.
