View Full Version : What is the BEST long range rifle

I am looking for a high powered long range rifle but which one is the best. I believe that some marine snipers use a modified Remington 700, but I have seen people talking about Savage. I need some advice before I buy one.

Right now I only have a pistol and an old colt rifle that I don't even shoot. I was trained on 22's but have shot up to a 30-06.

How far ya wanna go?

Barrett Rifles can build you one in .416 Barrett or .50 BMG that will shoot over 1000yds.

The .408 Cheytac is another one that can reach out there.

The best thing to do is figure out how far and at what you will be shooting and build or buy your rifle for that purpose.

Long Range for What?????

To be reasonable I would say the 308. Its the primary sniper round in the US and NATO. Lots of specialty cart.s out there but lets assume practality.

Rem makes several nice price reasonable priced rifles already set up as does Savage. The "BEST" on depens on one's opinion.

Personaly I like the M21 (NM M14 with ART), but thats because I went to sniper school using the M21 and ran sniper schools using the M21, and 30 years plus shooting highpower with the M1A/M14s.

Go find one that fits you, not what others tell you. Some guns fit, some don't. The better the fit the better you'll shoot it. Getting guns that fit just isnt for shotgunners.

I haven't done any long range work with it yet, but my Savage is capable of very promising accuracy at 100yds...
