Im looking for one of the muzzleloader barrels for the Mossberg Model 500 shotgun and wondering how these are and if anyone has ever shot with one of them. And does anyone know where to get one cheap. Thanks.

There's a new one for sale on Gunbroker for the same price that I've seen them sold at for years. BTW the MidwayUSA price is about $125.

There have been very few responses in the past to the same inquiry as yours about Mossberg BP barrels. Check out the link to the THR thread contained in the first thread below:

That sounds great, I didn't know that they made any muzzle loading barrels.

mike a fellow I work with has one and hates it , says the caps are to hard to get on and off the nipple, and he says it makes a real mess in the receiver when it comes to cleaning. Hope it doesn't turn into to big a pain for you.

Hi Mike,

I have shot a Mossberg slug barrel for about twenty years and I can say with experience that I have shot deer at 148 long paces with no problem. My barrel will group with the old BRI and the Winchester Slugs (bought out BRI) 2 inches at 100 yards (5 shots) consistently.

And, yes, the action does get very dirty after use. You have to use safety glasses (of course) when shooting the barrel due to the gases escaping into the action. That is no problem with me as I always pack my safety glasses when going deer hunting.

I trust that this information will help you.
