please name model and manufacturer of overall 9mm and .45 auto handgun out of your experience?

please name only one model in each category and dont consider cost of the gun.

just following consider the folowing chracteristics according to priority level 1 to 5.
1. reliability
2. accuracy
3. durability
4. safety features

45 - HK SOCOM
9mm - Glock 17

My choices are more shaded by reliability, but neither of those is a slouch when it comes to accuracy either.

Obviously the SOCOM is no good for #4, but outstanding for everything else. Also, a lot of 1911s start at $2k. ;)

45 ACP : Glock 36 or Glock 30

9mm : Glock 19

In .45 ACP it is difficult to beat a Commander Sized model for concealed carry and accuracy, but some people have trouble with proper magazine selection and maintenance of the pistol.

So if you want ease of transition and simplicity, those are good options.

I own a bunch of .45 ACP's and I am not sure, but for 9mm I like my Browning HP Mark IIIS-it's been dropped sweated on,shot with +p+,absorbed a few thousand rounds(quite a few)and never even needed a spring change-although it may be about time:)

Well, the 9mm is easy, at least to me: Glock 17, 9x19mm. It is reliable to a fault, plenty accurate for hitting silhouettes and steel plates out to 50 yards, lightweight, durable (takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' as Timex says), actually fairly easy to CCW if you want to do it and stone-axe simple. Aim, squeeze trigger, repeat. As a bonus it holds a whole handful of ammunition, perfect when you don't feel like stopping to reload! :D

In .45 ACP, I've got a very bad soft spot for the 1911-pattern pistol. A full-size Government model is almost as soft-shooting as the G-17, and many makers can get you one that is reliable and accurate. It is going to be at least as durable as the Glock over the long run. About the biggest knock is it is harder to conceal than the Glock IMO, but again, if you want to carry it, you can probably find a way.

Lately though, I've been lusting after a Glock 21SF. 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP in something not much bigger than my G-17. Wouldn't make much of a CCW pistol, but for anything else I can think of to do with it, it would be sweet.

That's easy- the Springfield XD9 and XD45. This is of course my opinion, as I have easily owned over 80 handguns in my lifetime, trying to find the one that was perfect for me. The XD and 1911 come very close, and they are the only fullsized handguns I own anymore.

For concealed carry, I love my Kahr PM9. That is in my opinion the perfect carry gun. I also alternate carry between my XD40 subcompact and my new HS Crusader Compact.

Best of all in my opinion...

Beretta PX4 Storm! 9mm; .40 & .45. Highly adaptable, simple in number of parts, takedown and reassembly, and rugged with high capacity magazines.

Amazes me when people say Colt is the best 1911 out there. Pretty naive. These are the folks who value nostalgia over reality. Colt is to 1911s as Ford is to economy cars. You can certainly do better, but it's going to cost more and you may have to change your buying habits and visit more than one dealer.

Smaug said,
Obviously the SOCOM is no good for #4, but outstanding for everything else.

Why did you say the MK23 was not appropriate safety wise. I don't understand?? What does it lack in safety?

As to .45...
Reliable to a fault,
The most durable I know of,
Match grade accuracy,
Has a safety and decocker... The HK MK23

As to 9mm, there are too many to pick from. I tend towards HKs, lets say the new P30 just to have an answer.

S&W 5906 9mm

Accurate
Reliable (ive tried all the limpwristing, holding it upside down, sideways, it still wont jam)
Price is right
Safety (I might take out the mag safety but it serves a purpose and it doesn't bother me that much).

Bottom line, an all around awesome handgun that I trust with my life. Even if it is only to buy me enough time to get my rifle into action.

As for .45s id take a S&W 3rd gen. For the same reasons.

Can't argue with your choices, 22lr. Any and all Smith 3rd generation pistols set the absolute standard for reliability-and I include Glocks, SIGs and HKs (all of which-except for the Glock -which I have shot extensively and respect, I own and like) in this criteria.
